Oh, and my apologies for starting a new thread in the Foyer about this. It just seemed quiet out there, and I hadn't come into the Lounge yet.

Revealing the statue kinda strips the whole "mysterious" bit. I get it that people have been disappointed with artifacts but come oooooon. :/

I 99.99% guarantee this is not in connection with HPLHS. I’ve actually been volunteering at HPLHS this month, and they are overwhelmed with a single project, their radio theater adaptation of Masks of Nyarlathotep. Seriously, you should see their workshop; it’s basically nothing but props for the adaptation. I certainly didn’t see anything Cthulhu related in there that I didn’t recognize from previous HPLHS work. Still, if it is somehow in partnership with HPLHS, I’d be much more interested given the high quality of their work. I admit, I've been feeling the lost of cool things to get from the MPC, so I ordered the HPLHS Masks of Nyarlathotep Super Deluxe edition. My wallet still smarts. professor, do you play Call of Cthulhu? I'm fascinated by how they're going to adapt this, as a huge part of the appeal of the original campaign is its open-ended nature; players can more or less experience everything in it in any order, and there are many red herrings that lead to memorable (and deadly) adventures, and I have no idea if they're going to include any of them or not. Also, I ended up splurging on this a while ago (I feel you about the wallet; I got a fraud alert when I bought it!), and since I've had the chance to volunteer at HPLHS and see many of the props for it (and hear some of the audio) I'm confident you won't be disappointed. I will confess that I probably wouldn't have purchased it if I wasn't close to their physical store, as you get both a 10% discount for buying in-store and there won't be any shipping costs. In fact, since I volunteer with creating their props, I'll probably end up assembling my very own!

Sigh. I am a huge fan of the Mythos and cool props. Unfortunately, money aside, I could never order this. Having an item made from horn is just too risky with customs. Here in Germany everything is overregulated, so I don't want to know what kind of regulations I had to check to be on the sure side...

Yikes, professor, that's over 900 simoleons! Yes, but I did manage to order it on the Black Friday event, so I got something like a 20% discount on it. It takes a bit of the sting off ... until they convert to Canadian and add the shipping.

I've run CoC off and on since second edition came out in the early 80s, so I've always been a big fan of Cthulhu themed things. It's probably why my first and still favourite MPC experience was the King in Yellow. I'm really not sure how they're going to adapt it. I don't know if the DART represents an actual play-through, or whether it's more of a staged play-through. It should be fun to see. Realistically, it was the props that appealed the most to me. I'm just annoyed at the way HPLHS tiered their products. When they announced the Prop Set, I pounced on it and was really impressed by it. Then they announced the Super Deluxe and it seems like there's a ton of overlap, but still some differences. I've obviously paid for some duplicate items, which I'm not so impressed with. I was just so impressed with Chaosium's re-release of MoN, that I went on their forums and did a fair chunk of proof-reading and corrections for them, that hopefully they incorporated between the pdf and when they started printing.

I may well have to PM you for Keeper tips. I just got into CoC this year and have been running a group through various scenarios for about seven or eight months. Everyone was eager for a campaign, and I was too intimidated by MoN right off the bat, so we began Horror on the Orient Express last weekend (which I know isn't exactly much different in terms of difficulty). HPLHS has done one other radio show related to CoC, Brotherhood of the Beast (their adaptation of Fungi from Yuggoth), and I absolutely love it. The format is that they have characters run through the campaign and find clues and encounter enemies, but then at the end, there are four separate endings for different ways that the "players" could choose to resolve the campaign. Each is quite different though all end with what I would call a "mixed success" which is of course very appropriate. No idea if MoN is going to follow that same format. Also, I with the Super Deluxe version of MoN, originally it was going to have both the Gamer Prop Set and the radio show prop set included, but now it just has the radio show prop set along with the super premium items, so there won't be a ton of overlap (though there will likely be some). By the way, I saw the prototypes of both the Statue of the Bloated Woman and The Golden Mirror and they both look incredible.

I'm treating this purchase as a serious litmus test for the MPC. Taako's thing turned out to be silly in terms of props and artifacts and I'm sure not intending to be similar in manufacturing quality to their other work. This will be their first serious new artifact since the Kapalka era started, so if it's not up to par with their previous work, that's the end of my supporting them for sure.

I've run it twice ... well mostly. Both times we only got so far and then scheduling for games started to become an issue and then it finally petered out. I've never actually run MoN nor HotOE, but I have all of the editions of both of those. They did seem like they required a more experienced touch for GMs and players alike, which is why I always wanted to work my players up to them by running them through BotB first. I also liked intertwining BotB with Shadows of Yog-Sothoth just to keep them unbalanced.

Let me chime in and add my 0,02 $. I have been GMing CoC for years now and in my humble experience Mask is a very fine story. If you are playing Indiana Jones the Adventure game. But not CoC. The rule set is far too unforgiving for this. CoC for me is all about the mystery, detective stuff. In Mask a player can die in the beginning scene if I remember correctly. And frustrating players by constant character death isn't a good thing. So my advice is to tell the players to prepare hero chars and give them some extra skill points if you use the CoC rules for this campaign. And be warned that though open world the game wants the players to tackle the adventure locations in a certain order. Could be that they go somewhere too early and thus die a gruesome death. Unfortunately the best CoC adventures I could recommend are all published in German. Let me just spoiler one for you: what if the Brother Grims fables were coming true today? I know, a bit of topic... But good to know there are other role players here. Maybe we could swap a few GM stories and tips someplace in this forum?

You've inspired me to create a CoC section somewhere here. I'll get to it this weekend (likely after running my Horror on the Orient Express campaign tomorrow). One thing to note is that in the new edition of MoN, they have a bunch of options for running it as a Pulp Cthulhu campaign as opposed to running it regular, which makes a lot of sense to me and feels more appropriate. In fact, one of the most famous and deadliest encounters in it has been removed from the regular campaign and is only suggested for Pulp Cthulhu now.

Oh, that's a cool idea. I have played so many adventures for CoC over the years and would like to share thoughts with like minded people. The new MoN sounds better, more refined. I definitely have to check if my FLGS has a copy.

Just wanted to hijack this thread for the last time to mention that I went ahead and created a new board for Call of Cthulhu discussion in the Role-Play area. It's separated into General Discussion, Investigator's Discussion, and Keeper's Discussion threads. Now back to the MPC Experience...

Just received a notification that they hope to ship this in the second week of February. I'll be sure to post pictures when I get it (which knowing their shipping speed nowadays means I'll likely post in March).
