Disappointed but not surprised. Admitably the statue is really beautiful but there's nothing here that justifies that price.

If it was 2015 I would have purchased this without hesitation.

I honestly like the statue from Century Beast more. Plus at the price of a full experience, I would want multiple mailings and a decent story. I always enjoyed opening the artifacts, but I liked it as an end result of the experience (outside of Weeping Book, but that was it's own flavor of fun).

It seems clear that this will have ephemera and may even include the whole story, so it’s not just the statue. To be honest, the multiple mailings part of the Experiences was never my favorite thing about them, so I’m not sad that this will be all-in-one. Still, it is expensive, and if I wasn’t running a year-long Call of Cthulhu campaign I probably wouldn’t have gone for it.

They have completely abandoned the idea of "a story told over multiple mailings." Not happy about that. The new item, however, is nice. Thought I would give it a shot and see, so ordered the lot. Comes out to $289.96 for the experience, plus the two add-ons, plus postage. And what's with displaying the artifact in advance? I guess that's better than the kick in the teeth we got with Filigree in Shadow. Will report upon delivery!

Single mailing experiences lose a great deal of MPC's former appeal for me. In days gone by, there were typically real-world tie-ins for the MPC experiences, so having time between mailings gave you an opportunity to research things that were revealed in the first mailing, and find out that, for example, that Vozrozhdeniya Island was a real location, where the Soviet Union tested biological weapons in the 1950s.
For me, that was always the appeal of MPC... the elements of the story that you fill in yourself through the hours of research you perform between mailing. They provided a few ideas for a story that you wrote yourself.
I hope The Boundless Library makes an announcement soon. I'm ready for something to speculate about.

I agree, there is a kind of storytelling magic with the multiple mailings, and I hope that continues with The Boundless Library. However, with something like The Call of Cthulhu, which is a well known story, I don’t think the format would be as effective as an original/unknown story.
It’s also interesting thinking back that some of the Experiences worked well with the multiple mailings for me and some didn’t. Risen, King in Yellow, and John Augur stand out in particular.

Perhaps the only thing we could compare the new experience to is "The Weeping Book." I enjoyed it, though it cost a third the price.

I wish they'd ship that crate to Germany. That statue would look great with the other curiosities I collected over the years. I might not like the way the company has changed but I'd give them another chance. Their bad that I just can't buy that stuff...🙄

I've just placed an order without the add-ons. It's a few dollars cheaper than The Century Beast All-in-One and I reckon it's as good a value. Both include a statue and a smaller physical artifact. Century Beast has more varied printed media (plus digital) but both arguably have equal amounts of content to read. I was secretly hoping the statue was the one from the Bespoke experience (I wanted to make a mold and several copies as it's the perfect shape to use as bookends for my bookshelf ) but I'm glad the MPC did the right thing and didn't break their promise to those who pledged the Beloved Patron Kickstarter. Plus the new statue looks pretty awesome. With the bas relief and newspaper articles it vaguely reminds me of a scaled-down version of the HP Lovecraft Historical Society's Angell Box, a $1000 offering (no statue) which I covet. dmikester have you personally seen the props and items from this item also and would you recommend it?

Alas, I haven't, but there's a good reason why; they are made to order, so they don't have any of the props for it lying around their warehouse. I think they require at least two weeks after it's ordered to be able to deliver it. However, I do know people who own it, and I've heard nothing but effusive praise for it. It's of course an enormously expensive collector's item for superfans of Lovecraft, but for that niche crowd, it's supposed to be spectacular. It's sort of MPC taken to an extreme level, where you get to experience an entire narrative story completely through (over one hundred) props. One thing I keep meaning to purchase but haven't yet is a digital sampling of the Angell Box. I've asked Sean (one of the owners of HPLHS) about it and it doesn't have close to everything from the Angell Box in it, but for twenty bucks you can sort of make your own: store.hplhs.org/collections/downloadable-content/products/copy-of-hplhs-prop-collection-vol-3

Ordered Thanks, dmikester ! For anyone who hasn't purchased from The H.P. Lovecraft Historical Society, I highly recommend their audio recordings. During their last sale I picked up several digital downloads from their Dark Adventure Radio Theatre collection and The Complete Fiction of H.P. Lovecraft audiobook. They are very well done and give me something to listen to at the gym.

I 99.99% guarantee this is not in connection with HPLHS. I’ve actually been volunteering at HPLHS this month, and they are overwhelmed with a single project, their radio theater adaptation of Masks of Nyarlathotep. Seriously, you should see their workshop; it’s basically nothing but props for the adaptation. I certainly didn’t see anything Cthulhu related in there that I didn’t recognize from previous HPLHS work. Still, if it is somehow in partnership with HPLHS, I’d be much more interested given the high quality of their work. I admit, I've been feeling the lost of cool things to get from the MPC, so I ordered the HPLHS Masks of Nyarlathotep Super Deluxe edition. My wallet still smarts.
