I like the Handbook since it is the one item carving out a niche within the Company for those who would send Experiences to friends and loved ones - which is what I have been doing for the most part. It feeds the mischief that comes with being part of a secret society. Which of the sigils does your Handbook bear then? The old one or the new? Wow, I'm not really sure. The cover of mine is a gold version of the current logo. It says 8th Edition published April 2014. One thing that I'm curious about are the ranks that it discusses. Has anyone "achieved" these ranks, such as Devotee or Vanguard? Not sure how else to achieve them given that I've unlocked all three Vaults and they seem to suggest that it has to do with solving puzzles. And also, I should clarify. I'm definitely a fan of the Handbook and find a lot of it very funny/intriguing (I'm still haunted by the implications of the last un-blacked out word on page 20: "meats"). I just don't want people who didn't get a chance to purchase it to feel like they're missing out on all that much. It's a great item but not essential to getting the most out of the experiences or even C&C. My speculation on the rankings based on handbook and some heated Concierge emails: Member - Become a member on the website. Inductee - Purchase a handbook/basic membership kit? Devotee - Purchase Curios and Conundrums and solve surface puzzles. Inner Circle - This one is a bit more confusing to me. The handbook suggests purchase Curios and Conundrums and solve deeper puzzles/vaults. But emails suggested it's based on my order history, in which case having the inner circle membership kit may be enough? Maybe both or either? At the time when I had emailed, I believe I was still very new to MPC and hadn't solved much, nor gotten to the vault yet. But the handbook statement alone suggests the former. Vanguard: Purchase Curios and Conundrums as well as several experiences both for yourself and as gifts.

I've definitely done enough for at least Devotee and I've purchased all of the experiences for myself and several copies of C&C for others. They're likely just not updating ranks anymore.

I've sent a message to MPC asking about this year's membership kits, as soon as I get a response, I'll post it here...

I just received a response regarding 2017 Membership Kits: Dear Zak,
Thank you for your inquiry! Final decisions on a membership kit have not yet been made at this time, but pay close attention to the missives from our esteemed Curator, he will make an announcement as soon as his contemplations have lead to a decision.
I wish I could be more helpful, and, as always, should you have any further questions, comments, or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me forthwith. Alice a Concierge with Member Services at The Mysterious Package Company www.mysteriouspackage.com So, as with most communication, no real answer other than "Not yet".

Is there a particular month or season that they usually release them?

In 2014 and 2015 they went on sale in September, but in 2016 they went on sale in July.

I don't think they have in the past done anything, nor are currently doing anything in regards to rankings at this time. I only knew mine because I asked. In my exchanges, the concierge member I spoke with said the entire handbook is considered by him a "tongue in cheek document." I seemed to have provoked the curator when asking how the ranks are achieved because I got a pretty insulting response suggesting I was demanding to be given the highest rank, when I was really just asking how it worked. They implied there may be something to the rankings in the future; "I have heard there may be plans afoot to imbue the rankings with more substantial meaning and use in the future, but we are not quite there yet." You can email concierge and ask what they think your rank might be but there hasn't been anything actually in place for them yet.

I mean, it clearly wouldn't lead to anything substantial, unless you got a special/exclusive curio of some kind for being a higher rank. And yes, the membership handbook is definitely tongue-in-cheek, which is why the ranks stand out even more, as they seem much less humorous and more straightforward than practically anything else in the book.

I honestly don't think the ranks were ever meant to be taken seriously. It wouldn't surprise me at all to learn that they never kept any kind of record of or assigned ranks to anybody.

Even considering the adjusted C&C schedule, and what seems to be the biggest experience launch they've done with "Filigree", I'm still hoping that there will be a membership kit this year. It seems like the membership kit was a good seller, so I can't see them turning down that revenue stream...

That kind of stinks to hear honestly. Granted, my wife and I just found MPC and C&C about 2 months ago or so, but one of the things we really loved was the feeling of being Members of something. Especially since it was "secret". In fact, it's why we love this forum so much. It's been great getting help from different people on this site when we've been stuck, even if it was just letting us know that we were on the right track. Hopefully MPC keeps some of the Membership feel alive. I would really love to be able to buy a Membership Kit. I'm sure you all will be hearing more from us as we begin to work through Volumes 1-3. Hopefully we are up to the task!

For those of us who did get a 2016 membership kit, has there been any work done on solving any potential puzzles in the kit? The telegram is quite curious.

Aren't we due for an announcement about the new membership kits this fall? It's almost August.
