How do you know this if they haven't come out yet? I am a HAK admin! Gasp! Are you the one liking all my Instagram photos? Haha just kidding. I am a little disappointed to know that I will ultimately invest $240 to get the whole story though. If I like the first two boxes I guess I will just upgrade to the six pack to save money if I want to get the full story, or stop and just never know how it ends haha. At least with MPC I know it's expensive and how many shipments to make the whole story, this business model is a bit tricky :/

The way I see it, I could spend $30 a month on many other things like; beauty products, a 45 minute escape room, an item of clothing, dinner out.. But I chose to forgo on of those things a month for HAK, because for me the satisfaction lasts longer! Not that I am saying that everyone has the luxury of having a spare $30 each month..

Wow, so they're effectively equating the cost of the single premium box with the cost of eight regular boxes/a full season? That would suggest that the premium box has a huge amount of material (I'd hope)! In a way, that makes me feel better about purchasing the premium box. I agree, the business model's a little rough, but it's also a pretty new company, so we'll have to see.

Well, the order for 1934 actually went live I guess at midnight PST on their site, so I went ahead and ordered it. I'll update everyone here on what I think when I get it (it'll be a couple of months from now).

I saw it this morning. Looks like they're shipping May 1st. I have to give them credit, they ship when they say they're going to ship. Did anyone see their new video advertising the regular HaK subscription? It's pretty cool.

I didn't see the new video, but I did see the 1934 video and while at first I thought it was cheesy, it really did get creepy and unsettling at the end. I was unexpectedly impressed and intrigued.

The quality and quantity of items in the second one was quite something. And now there are so many more levels where you can look for things. I hope the premium box will blow my mind, too.

My first box is expected to ship Jan 20 or so. I'm doing a month to month. Have to received your first box? So sorry, I just saw this. Yes, I'm on box 2 now and I love it. I find what they're doing very effective. I will continue for now.

So I got Box 1 today and...am pretty disappointed to be honest. The content is interesting and well done, but there are elements of this that really irk me.
For one, as I feared, there's no clear way to tell if you're making progress or not, and the content so far feels very scattered as a result. I get that you're supposed to be taking notes and making connections between all of the other boxes, but a month between boxes when doing this seems like a really long time narratively speaking, even more so than an MPC experience. Also, there's "hidden" content on the website that is easily findable by doing simple sitemap checks, and one thing that I found seems like it's likely something I was only supposed to find by solving a multi-box puzzle. It also seems, from going to the HaK forum, that some elements that aren't even hidden now, like the Archives section on the website, didn't go up until Box 3 went live, so the different investigative threads that are available don't coincide with when you get specific boxes, making what information you're supposed to have at different points quite confusing. Finally, I feel like I "found" everything there is to find in Box 1 after about an hour or so unless there's some VERY subtle hidden stuff associated with the various cards and items; not great value in my opinion.
I dunno, I'm going to wait for the next box, and 1934 might be better because it will be totally self-contained, but I'll likely cancel my subscription if the second box doesn't give me much more to do.
Edit: Slept on it and decided that I just don't have time to devote to this if it's not really my style, so I went ahead and cancelled everything (their customer service has been excellent; took less than an hour to refund me for 1934). I can't see any of the issues that I mentioned above changing at all, though Box 2 will likely have much more content based on the inventory listed on the forums. Still, I'm glad it's popular, and I at least got a cool notebook out of the deal!

It's more of a forensic and profiling game than a puzzle game, from what I've seen.
