Okay I tried different ones for #5 and 8 5: Shuffle off "to Buffalo" i actually liked "this mortal coil" better but given #8 below, this brought the word count to 29.
8. Cross my heart, "hope to die" -- Some versions do not have the word "and"
Interestingly, were those correct then the vowel count is reduced even further if the method is using is an anagram of the first letter of each of the words. Even so, that would be an extremely fortuitous puzzle construction, so I think one might have to do something else with the words.

Well OK, if it is the first letters (and I haven't looked at the last letters yet) then we start with DIYDTYAMTYCCIHTFTBBWRTAWHTDNY
but we have the clue root out harold wilson menaker boyce abel et al hark that initialism is among us
which does mean if we take the initials of these men, HWMBA, we're left with DIYDTYTYCCITFTBWRTAHTDNY which could also be the initials of other spies or suspected spies, and the key is to put them in order?
My reasoning for this is "root out" tells us to look for these people, "et al" means people other than those listed, and "initialism" means we just need their initials

Or maybe it's a math reference. Anyone know the square root of Harold Wilson??

My only concern with this is that this is taking the message from the Word Search and applying it to the You Don't Say puzzle, and there isn't really any indication that we're meant to do that. Even in the Vault, the symbols under the locks correspond to only one puzzle, whereas in cases where we're supposed to combine puzzles, both puzzle symbols have appeared under the locks.

Night vault side Just so no one else bothers with it, I did try putting in my 29 first letter of each word in a string (of nonsense) just on the off chance and that didn't work either. ** I hope that makes sense.

Referring here to the day side I think, the 29 character EYE padlock? And whilst I agree with thebardess that this particular padlock's 29 characters might have nothing to do with You Don't Say, we're just casting around for anything which helps solve this padlock. And it's attractive that we have a set of characters here that just happens to be 29 long, and we have the unused harold wilson bit from the crossword/wordsearch.... ....it's all a reach I agree, but up to this point we have no better ideas to work on. Unless someone else does?

With every other daytime puzzle, the symbol underneath it indicated the puzzle(s) required to solve it. Bardess was questioning the use of the Word Search , not You Don't Say.

Yeah but we have harold wilson from the wordsearch/crossword and that's not relevant anywhere else so far, right?
