So I am still looking for a 29 letter phrase related to this puzzle. I was having an idea about using letters hidden in the pictures (like there's an E in the "pen E" picture or there are 5 eyes/i's or the $ could be read as an S...). Anyone else have any bright ideas? |

I was just pondering this one, as well, while I let my imagination tick away on a few of the other problems. I like your idea that the images could give some indication of the message. Perhaps the numbers on the cards could indicate word length? They don't seem to add up to enough, however.
Still, I'm happy to kick around some ideas. I am pursuing the line of thought that perhaps the answer lies within the idiom fragments themselves, but have yet to come up with anything concrete... |

I've completed the halves that weren't required for the first layer of the puzzle. I can't see anything there, but that doesn't mean it's not. I'm sure it is, in fact.

I did the same and ended up with 30 words - SO close to 29! I thought I made a mistake that led to an extra word, but I can't seem to find one. |

Way too many letters in the back halves. Yeah I know, but I thought I might be able to convert those 29 words into letters (1st or last letter of each word, etc). It's also throwing me that the "light" padlocks have no spaces - think that's just to make them tougher, or are they really ~30-character-long strings? |

From the ones we've solved, it's just to make them tougher by leaving out the spaces.
