Well, that did it, but I'm at a loss as to HOW that's the answer. K8, any chance for a PM how you arrived at it for use in my future skills?

I actually didn't solve it myself, FlightofFancy did, and I don't know what her process was. But since the spirit of community means anyone that knows the solution should help someone looking for it, I jumped in! Glad you got it!

The one other thing I find interesting is that the lock has a + sign on it, implying that there are more clues inside. However, it just has the lines for the password. Think that means somethings, or just a red herring? I'm not sure how others solved it, but I took the appartent lack of clue to be a clue. Consider what you say above and also what symbols are involved. Also there is a clue as to how to proceed on the outside envelope

Oh geez. I think I just saw the full shape of this. there are two parts, either of which can lead you the right answer with a little thought, but makes the answer seem, well, a bit unsupported. I had one part, Flight of Fancy had the other part (the clues given suggest it was a different route anyway, and is for the other part). The two parts together however, give a well supported answer in a very twisted kind of way!

It appears the missing "clue" was just added.
"That which begins must likewise end."
I just started playing around with this and may need a slight push.

Lol The color thing had me thinking but I can't find a red one that's 9 letters, even with that pimpernel clue!

Usually a + means there's an additional clue inside. I took it as 'nothing' being the additional clue, but I think it depend might on whether or not you solve it using all 10 locks or skip to 'red' as the solution.

Boy, my head sure wants to explode. Not sure which path to pull on... or even where any path is. I have all the symbols and answers written down together...

Red isn't the solution, it's a useful clue. Red doesn't address how to use all 10 locks. But it does cue the final solution. On the contrary, it's the clue that MPC embedded in the lock symbol, and the only clue we were initially given. Until MPC went back and added a clue for the puzzle, it was the logical path to the solution.
