Since we've been talking about this in the eighth mailing thread, it seemed about time to give it it's own thread. The ninth mailing is indeed the reveal -- but based on pix of previous reveal letters, I think this one isn't elaborated in the same way. Maybe it's just me. Thoughts?

It can't be the reveal unless that comes before the epilogue C&C issue, which would seem to make no sense. The story continues in the C&C issue, while the reveal is simply a note about who sent the experience. Sending the reveal first would interrupt the story.

Yes, it makes no sense. But that's what it is. I was half expecting this even before the epilogue mailing of Under the Ceiba Tree was stated to be shipped after The Reveal, since the quarterly is openly associated with the Mysterious Package Company. It makes sense if one buys into the movie analogue the Company has been using occasionally to describe their narrative model: The Reveal would take the place of the production credits, while the Epilogue would serve as a post-credits stinger.

I was very much hoping for the C&C issue myself, and a little let down when I realized it was the reveal. My wild theory is that the MPC didn't want to send the epilogue because:
1) if the recipient lives in the same household as the giver, and the giver also subscribes to C&C, then giver becomes obvious. "Hey, those weird mailings from Canada includes one of your newspapers! Did you get this for me?"
2) A less appealing option is that the MPC is going to offer the epilogue for sale to others. There was a sentence in one of the recent emails from the Curator about "Despite the heat, one could say that Autumn is coming early this year." and I suspect it has to do with an early offering of C&C. Perhaps they're going to tie in the epilogue with volume 3? (This of course is wild speculation with very little proof. I'd hold back the pitchforks and "kickstarter exclusive rage" until we have any idea of what will happen.)

I was thinking that the "early Autumn" statement might point to an earlier release of the Membership Kits this year.
Regarding the Curios & Conundrums issue: I expect that the newspaper will not entirely be set within the story. There may be other stories in there, maybe the Company will even share details of the creation of The Century Beast, in the vein of the usual Bespoke Experience Showcase and the Coterie interviews in Volume I? Even if it is just an Editorial by the Curator, the veil of secrecy will most likely be lifted in some way and the recipient - if they are not already - be informed about the existence of the Mysterious Package Company.
It was probably a choice between lessening the impact of The Reveal and telling the post-conclusion part of the story afterwards.
Another possibility would be that the Company is struggling to complete the second online puzzle - which I have not entirely given up on - and that the trailhead leading into it will be included in the newspaper. Unlikely, since the online puzzles were not stated to be exclusive to the kickstarter rewards and the academic website was supposed to be part of the Experience from the start, but who can say for certain?
Addendum: Well, look at this. It would seem the "early autumn" was indeed the Curator referring to the Membership Kits.

Three different membership kits this year! But only one reasonable choice... a pin? Another additional challenge coin? They must be mine!

Sorry, I must have missed something, how do we know it is the reveal coming first?

Sorry, I must have missed something, how do we know it is the reveal coming first? Some have already received it.

Already received it? They must be people on different levels of the experience.

I am a diamond level backer, and received the reveal mailing on Monday. I had assumed that everyone who is getting the epilogue had already received the reveal mailing sometime in the last week, as I did.

According to the USPS tracking number on my account (I can't imagine why the reveal, which is usually just an envelope, would have a tracking number) mailing 9 is supposed to arrive tomorrow. Hmmmm ....
