I've just started looking at this one, I've literally typed stuff here as I looked at it, no response if my answer or reasoning are sound or off from Jack, so I'm running it by you lot first - are these on the right lines: (i) Hand - Water - Fire - Cabin draws a 4 (ii) Spinning the outer ring so the arrow points at 4 gives us a figure for each of the symbols... (iii) I can see four keys, twelve leaves, two hourglasses, four arrows, five moons, one bow, three flames which gets me to 346 - decoding to A B D (iv) E should be the fourth to match the pattern in (i), giving us THE RING, THE WATER, THE WATCH and THE BLAZE for the special horsie (v) So, Water Watch Ring (aka Bell) are good, Blaze is bad - gives us a course going in at water in the top left, passing through STRUCK, BRIGHT and BLOWN and then out the bottom right, past the sickle (vi) So matches are BI and sickle is RD - gives us BIRD? (vii) And so bird gives to five words from the rest of the puzzles - 1.4.6 to me looks like it maps to puzzle.line.word and my answer is the attractive "to the land of mist" I'm attracted to this answer as it seemed to flow well, but of course often wrong answers flow well too, so...

@craigjr: You are remarkably close on this. (iii) Check your count again on leaves. Don't just think positively. (iv) If you go through BLOWN, you'll pass through water twice. There's a path that only goes through the desired symbols once. With these small corrections, you may find the road you travel is different, but the destination is the same.

OK, nice, thanks! And indeed Jack has written back - was there a bit of a kerfuffle on this?

So I'm the single correct answer that Jack wrote about, but I had to make an account to say that it took me over three weeks to work out less than what you just solved in what sounds like hours. You, sir, are amazing ![:o](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/shocked.png) Oh, also, who wants to live at Celinja's house now? Candles, baking and tea - sign me up <3

And yeah, book me a room!

(iii) I can see four keys, twelve leaves, two hourglasses, four arrows, five moons, one bow, three flames which gets me to 346 - decoding to A B D Where am I going wrong ... Keys are worth 10, leaves are worth 8, hourglasses are worth 18, flames are worth 6, arrows are worth 2, moons are worth 20, and bows are worth 60.
4*10+12*8+2*18+3*6+4*2+5*20+1*60 = 358

Where am I going wrong ... Firstly, I think your maths is correct; Craig was a little fortuitous to arrive at 346 and should have got 358 like you did.
There's something you both missed - check Geodus's excellent hint: "Don't just think positively..."

I was starting to question my ability to do arithmetic, and then to use online calculators. I was about to go buy ~360 M&Ms and move them from one bowl into another one by one the old fashioned way. Yes, that hint is perfect.

Ok, I'm back after several weeks of insanity at the office. My pile of unopened or only briefly glanced at puzzles is a bit daunting.
I've got the right total for iii (I think) but I can't see how that translates to letters.
