Betrayal at house on the hill (link) is one of the best board games I've ever played. Each payer gets a character that is a genre staple and explores a mansion. The mansion is made of tiles and is basicly randomly generated as characters explore the house. As they explore they collect items and what not but enventually a random adventure from a book of adventure starts and one of the players becomes the bad guy who tries to doom the others.

I have had this sitting on my coffee table since last fall and have yet to muster up a group to play.

I just got the expansion for this. Such a fun game. So much replay-ability with all the scenarios and how the board is never the same.

I haul it out every year for Halloween game night, it's fab! Arkham Horror is also good, but I think Betrayal is better.

I love Arkham Horror, but I also like games that I have a small chance of winning once in awhile.

I have played a handful of times. I introduced it to my parents after a dinner one evening. Not their usual cup of tea but they caught on quick enough in the first half. The second half wherein I summoned Death and they had to play chess threw them for a loop. Though the eked out a victory. My last play through included the new expansion but due to the randomness we didn't get to try out the expansion haunts. Though we still played a haunt we never played before. I love this game for being different every time.

For anyone still interested in this game- about a month ago they released a “legacy” version that builds on previous chapters played and alters your game as you play as various families over a few generations. It’s a stand-alone copy that has really good instructions as the game goes on so you don’t mess anything up. I grabbed it as soon as it was released and being able to build a storyline (I think the developers said there’s something like 5000 possible routes you could go over the course of the game) and alter the game as we play has been a blast. Definitely recommend this.
