I am having fun working through The Librarian's Almanaq but am having difficulty with one aspect of the Conondrum, namely what exactly the cutting means: "cut that piece of paper on a line between the outer points of the lines next to those characters." Is the first line mentioned an actual line that has been given on the square or does it just mean in a straight line? Are the "lines next to those characters" referring to the lines that appear directly beneath the letter as you look at it in its traditional orientation or the lines that are are under adjacent characters. So if on one side of a square you had A, E, and F for example and E was circled, do the "lines next to those characters" refer to the line under the E (next to that character) or the lines under A and F because those lines could also be considered next to the initial character? Are we cutting off an entire corner of the square or are we supposed to cut only the part of the square where lines are already drawn? Is it just one cut per pair of circles? Any other help to get over this obstacle would be great.

Good luck on this puzzle. It was a lot of fun but really frustrating. I made several copies and just had to keep redoing the game and trying out several ways to cut. In the end my cuts weren't quite right but enough so I could read the message. I wish I could be of more help.

Thanks for the hint about photocopying. I'll give that a try. Can you be more specific about what the cuts looked like? Did you cut whole corners off from the square or just along the lines? Anyone with more specific hints on how to make cuts would be appreciated.

You'll be cutting whole corners off - this was the toughest puzzle in the almanac I think..... my bits were cellotaped together and re-cut several times

I've completed the Opening puzzle, but several of the matches are still mysterious to me. Can anyone enlighten on any of these pairings? Pretzel/Knot :: Decision flow chart diagram
Cape :: Funnel/curvy cone
Time/hourglass/flow/sand :: River/stream
Paper towel :: Gown/female silhouette
Calendar date 9 :: Florescent light bulb
Campbell's soup can :: Monopoly property
State/Nickname/City list :: Leaf
Turn/sign :: Bank
Pointing at one square in grid of 12 :: Tag /Label Broken/cracked plate :: Pot
<3 :: Stags Star :: Triangle Flower :: Blimp/airship
It's possible some of these are mis-paired - in a few cases, we had only 1-2 weak matches to place a cell. Here is link to a photo of the grid we've assembled: Thanks!

I'll have to take a look when I get home. A few of those might not be right, but the one that I remember from your list is Role Model.

A few more: Pretzel Logic, Crack Pot, and Cape Horn. I have the gas pump and chain link pages swapped compared to you, and I think I'm right. That gives us time frame and main stream at the top.

I can dig out mine and help out with any missing pairs, but as Todd pointed out, I think you've got two pages in swapped positions in the lower/middle-right.

Help! This is dumb but I somehow misplaced my SOLVED page of "the Table" and we can't remember what the answer was. Obviously going to be inconvenient to get to the final puzzle. Can someone throw me a bone here, maybe in a private message? I felt it was one of the easier puzzles, just can't remember what the answer was.

Is your duck sitting upright? I’ve still got the duck in the position specified in the preparation section - are we supposed to move the duck?
