Yet another reminder before anyone goes and starts cancelling subscriptions...
We didn't have anything to work towards after issue one of volume three either. We had several words, but nothing to do with them (sort of similar to now).
Only after issues two launched did we have any mention of The Vault.
Not saying there will still be a vault. But, at least give them a chance to see where they're going with this.

And for those that didn't jump on board already, you can't actually cancel your subscription if you aren't subscribed at the new rate haha. Though I'm sure there will be many emails reminding you to opt in for issue 2.

when are we to expect issue 2 ?? Since MPC has said that all 4 issues will be sent out this year, if they were to space them out accordingly....my best guess is toward the end of July. But who knows....they haven't said anything yet about when they expect to ship it.

But who knows....they haven't said anything yet about when they expect to ship it. They haven't updated the Curios & Conundrums page on their website, either. And they usually have orders open until 30 days before shipping, although I believe that was reduced to two weeks for last issue. If they're going to get 3 more issues in this year, that's an issue every 10 weeks.

With so many of us clearly disappointed and likely to cancel subscriptions, has anyone reached out to MPC to confirm whether or not this is it regarding layered puzzles etc? If they could simply confirm that there's either more to find or more content to follow I'll be relatively happy. If this is the new standard then I'll be cancelling. I assume they read this board to gauge feedback so I'm assuming it's the latter. Alas, this isn't how the MPC usually work. There was a significant glitch in the last Vault, and when I found it and messaged them, they wouldn't even acknowledge there WAS a Vault until I started standing on desks. Metaphorically.

and "Not even the original key can open it" and "it can only be unlocked by turning a special security key in the opposite direction." Could this be The Vault? Or am i totally lost?

The Chubb Detector lock was real. See the Wikipedia page: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chubb_detector_lock It was indeed picked at the Great Exhibition in 1851. It was even referenced in a couple of Sherlock Holmes book. The lock was indeed designed to be unlocked, after being tampered with, by a special key or the original key being turned in a different direction. From what I can see on Google, the quote "the locks are there to keep the honest people out" is from a book entitled "The Honest Truth About Dishonesty".

So just received this from MPC: Dear Kimberly, We do take the time to carefully read and forward feedback to the correct iteration of the Powers that Be, here at MPC. And, as you know, we have heard from many on this subject. As a growing company we are constantly revising and re-imagining aspects of what we do. All I am permitted to say in this matter is that the Vault has been sealed for the time being... but nothing is forever. I hope that Volume 4.2 is more to your liking. As always, should you have any further questions, comments, or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me forthwith. So once you solve the metapuzzle, that's it? There is nothing to do in the vault? No next step?

So once you solve the metapuzzle, that's it? There is nothing to do in the vault? No next step? For the moment yes. No second layer puzzles have been found, and there is no vault...at least not yet...and if there is going to be one, it probably will not show up until sometime after Issue 4 is released. There are some interesting items of note in the paper, but we have just written them down to see if they become useful in the future.

I only started with C&C with the last volume, but one thing I have noticed is that the puzzles do seem to get more difficult as the issues advance (Issue 2 is more challenging than issue 1, Issue 3 is more challenging than 2, etc). Hopefully this will be the case with this Volume, because I will agree that these puzzles were significantly easier than the last Volume.
I'm holding out hope for a Vault.
I do think that all of the answers leading to one single word for an overall "Solution" to the issue is likely a way to entice more new subscribers. It gives more of a feeling of closure, even though we have no idea what to do with the word from here...
I've been re-reading the issue hoping for a deeper puzzle, or something more hidden, but I haven't had anything jump out at me thus far.
