The Witness is difficult to describe, not because it lacks focus, but to simply state "this is a game in which you solve mazes" does not do it justice. The game involves exploration of an island, in which the player progresses by solving mazes found explicitly in panels throughout the island, or within the environment itself. There are no tutorials or instructions -- the player learns by doing. There are many moments in the game where you as a player will say "Aha! I understand that now", or suddenly see a puzzle that had been there in front of you all along. The Witness is beautiful, daunting, and highly recommended. store.steampowered.com/app/210970/en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Witness_(2016_video_game)

In the main, you have a grid with an entry and an exit and you use your mouse or whatever to draw a line from the start to the end. That's the very basic level. Then throughout wrinkles are thrown in - maybe some areas of the grid contain coloured dots, and you need to draw your line (a single continuous line) such that the black and white dots are separate. Or you draw it to have the same number of squares each side of the line. Or you draw it to certain groups of colours are together. Or all of these. And then and then <<major league spoiler ahead>> You realise when looking at one of the landscapes that actually the landscape itself looks a bit like a start dot and a path and an end dot and can I? Yes I can draw a line on the landscape itself and something happens....and now the whole game takes on a whole new level as you start to neglect the obvious puzzles and search for more landscape ones.
and then and then <<even bigger spoiler ahead>> <<seriously don't read this>> you get someone else to start the game from scratch to enjoy it and as soon as they come out into the open you realise that THE VERY FIRST DAMN THING YOU SAW WAS A LANDSCAPE PUZZLE AND IT WAS IN FRONT OF YOUR EYES FROM MINUTE ONE EXCEPT YOU DIDN'T KNOW THEN

This is an incredible game, the puzzles get very complex and clever. I beat it the first time without looking for any solutions online, however I only solved half the puzzles before hitting the end game. When you reach the end it resets all the puzzles and lets you start over NG+ to try to solve all the puzzles. There are 11 lights to the mountain but you only need 7 to reach end game which is what I solved, so loads still to go at.
