So, if you are not a frequent frequenter of mainstream Internet, you have probably never heard of this show. However, I have a sneaking suspicion that a lot of people know of its existence. Still, I'll drop a thread all the same. As the title suggests, Stranger Things is the name of the TV show. It's not exactly connected to puzzles or mysteries, and the show's plot is quite linear, with no branching puzzle paths or fan-created conspiracies (as far as I'm aware). What it lacks for in puzzling is made up for in story, though. To be fair, it's not anything never-before-seen blow-your-socks-off fantastic (IMHO), but it's still good. It especially reminds me of Volume 3.2. I won't spoil anything for either the show or the C&C issue, but let's just say they capture somewhat of the same vibe. Stranger Things is only on Netflix (who is not endorsing me, I swear ). Here is their description of the show: As strange (heh) as that sentence makes it appear, trust me. It doesn't do it justice.

I LOVE STRANGER THINGS!! TBH, when everyone was initially raving about it, I wasn't even subbing to Netflix. Then I saw an ad for it and was drawn to the 80s vibe... not just the setting and clothes, but the actual style of movies from back then. I'm not a film buff, but if you ask my film buff professor dad, he will say (somewhat disparagingly) that it's 80's bricolage and nothing too special... but I still got a kick out of pretending I was a kid again riding my bike around town running from secret government agents... I need to know what Hopp knows! Can't wait for season 2!

I agree with both you and your dead. It was entirely not special in a special way, to me. I loved both the 80s vibes and the Steven Spielberg vibes I got from it. Season 2 is going to be exciting, as I'm curious to see where they take the show. The first episode of Season 2 is rumored to have the title "Madmax", if that interests you.

Ironically, my dead would probably disagree with me on everything XD And everyone told me it was Spielbergian, so when I started watching it, I wasn't scared in the parts where I later learned I was supposed to be scared... I was thinking it was like E.T. and the "aliens" were just sorely misunderstood XD I would call it "Del Torian" instead since the creatures looked like the vampires from his Strain books/show.

Augh, that's a horrible typo! And I always check for errors before I post, too. Guess that's what I get for typing late at night. Ahem. *dad I wasn't scared at the "scary parts", mostly because the creatures weren't really shown all that much. When they were, I'd gotten used to the idea of them and knew so much about them that the "fear of the unknown" factor was missing.
Plus, Don't Hug Me .I'm Scared and other such trippy mediums have pretty much desensitized to me to everything except outright jump scares or disgusto moments. I thought the plot and some of the cinematography seemed Spielbergian, while the creatures were more Lovecraftian. But we could sit and analyze it all the livelong day. Now I'm going to go sit in a corner and have a little cry because dead does not equal dad. xD

LOL, I don't make it my job to point out typos anymore... but I know you like the details, so I knew you'd notice it XD I'm a recovered Grammar Nazi; plus I make plenty of typos on my own. I used to be a paid proofreader (with dreams of being a copyeditor), but it wasn't until I had a 4 year degree in English and worked in the field for a year that I learned I hated it and sucked at it. And anyway, can there really be such a thing as a "typo" in the melting pot of a living language like English? The hardest thing for me to learn as an English major was that no one is ever right or wrong when it comes to the English language... it's all a matter of perspective. Doesn't stop me from reading and rereading and editing 15 times after I post tho And finally, from "errors" like "dead" vs "dad," we get puns. And who doesn't love puns?!

Puns are the building blocks of civilization! I've always been a grammar Nazi with myself, but not with others (except the few people who have leeched off of my English knowledge). All languages are beautiful, and I have a personal life goal to master most of the major ones! I have English and most of Spanish under my belt; now for French, German, Russian, Lithuanian, Italian, Portuguese, Greek, Arabic, Japanese, Swedish, Polish, "Swiss", Finnish, and Romanian. Anyway, all languages are fascinating in how, in the modern age, most of them borrow from each other. I mean, Spanish takes "laptop", "jeans", and "sandwich" straight from our language. And we take, of course, many words from them. Plus, there's something beautiful in translating language literally: "to hug" or " to embrace" in Spanish ("abrazar") "literally" means "to use the arms" in English. "Paragua", or "umbrella", "literally means "repel water". And (my personal favorite, because it's just so darn romantic) "casado", or "married", "literally" means "to make house with". Rant aside, I love language. *NOTE: Reading this back, I'm not even sure why I typed it all out. Oh well. Enjoy?

S2 was amazeballs. I really enjoyed it. Managed to keep the awe and wonder of S1 while increasing the scope and "wow factor."
And now, I wait with bated breath for S3...in about 18 months. 😵

I agree, as someone who thought Season 1 was good but not great, I loved Season 2. Season 2 basically took every step I would have wanted it to take, and especially in the beginning, it leaned into the '80s stuff much more and was way more enjoyable as a result. There were some questionable narrative decisions (mainly having Eleven/Jane be separate from the other kids for so long, and episode 7 was pretty rough), but other than that I was very pleased.

Just don't get me started on the stealth level in the game...
But yes, it's fantastic and totally free. Worth it just for the chiptune theme.
