This is the discussion thread for the lightning bolt daytime lock.
We already know the breakdown for this lock is 7

Technical note: You can right click on the clue to save and print it (option depends on browser being used).

I'm wanting to connect this to something McCabe is overheard to say in the Vaulted Ambition article But I'm not sure how to technically accomplish that. I may just be trying to draw connections that don't exist.

Has anyone made any headway on this one? So confused.

Has anyone made any headway on this one? So confused. I've noticed there are several words from the word search present. I've tried (without success) slicing into vertical columns and rearranging horizontal and vertical placement.

To elaborate, the lower right corner contains several segments and partial words right out of the word search. I'm not sure why that's not true for the entire thing, though. For those of you with prior issues, are other sections or snippets from earlier word searches?

I did not use anything from previous word searches. But you might want to consider how you are slicing and dicing

I've seen "cutting and pasting" mentioned in the chat, so I assume I need to rearrange it somehow (or perhaps add to it). Slicing vertically (to preserve vertical orientation) and rearranging yielded no results. Slicing horizontally (which preserves very little of the original layout) and rearranging yielded no results.
My next step is to just slice all the letters up, but if that's the case then what was the purpose of the funky layout to begin with?
1) Is the orientation of the initial layout significant? 2) Should I be looking to add letters to fill in the gaps (perhaps to build ALL the words from the original puzzle in the new layout and get a new code word)?

Oh! I think I may see the problem. Let me ask you a question first to make sure... you have two things. Which are you trying to cut up?

Ah. You might want to think about that, then Well the symbol for this one is the wordsearch rather than crossword, so I've been looking at that. The most notable thing is that the word SWELL which appears in the C&C version to be in the top right, yet in the lock it's bottom left, so maybe the grid needs extending using that as a key? However, it doesn't work with the PREC below it, so maybe not! The formatting of the clue has to be important, otherwise why bother - but I do see certain combinations in the wordsearch puzzle - L L E W S in the top right, S U O L in the middle right, I C E N running down the top left, L A N E at the top, which seems more than coincidence, but not everything is there and how does the formatting work? Aaarrrggghhh!!!!

Aaarrrggghhh!!!! Oh, it is the wordsearch--Sorry, I assumed that's what was meant and subconsciously auto-corrected mentally. Just saying there are two things you have to solve this, and if cutting up one of those two things isn't working, consider how you might cut up the other one.

It helped when I finally looked at it the right way, but these are the kinds of puzzles that cause road rage.
