I love learning things. I did not realize that was a correct spelling of that word, thus the double letter threw me off as well.

Most of the puzzles have a daytime lock associated with them.

Apparently I'm going to make myself known on this forum by resurrecting dead threads and posting stupid random thoughts because all of you have pretty much analyzed most every dot of ink in all the issues out at this point. xD Eh, but enough comments like that. They come across as self-pitying in a text format. It's interesting to note that the crossword grid is completely symmetrical, except for one cube not shaded. Also, the crossword is still valid if that cube were filled in; both words still remain words. Probably means nothing, but maybe one of my off-the-wall ramblings will actually come true Someday™. Or maybe it sparks some Inspiration™ in one of you veterans. Or it just Falls Flat™. The latter is probably the most likely scenario. On a different theory hand, the second layer has some interesting connotations. MKUltra is linked to a man named Sirhan Sirhan, who is the killer of Robert F. Kennedy, brother of JFK, who has a huge conspiracy behind his death, yada yada blah blah blah. I think you get what I'm getting at. Sirhan claimed to have been under the influence of MKUltra, along with a whole government plot and set-up theory to boot. MKUltra is also linked to several other drugs other than LSD, such as marijuana. Possible connection to the big ad on page 10?

Please give me a push. Thanks Look for a precursor. One that perhaps left subjects in a vegetative state.

Todd's vegetative hint about MK Ultra is pointing right at the heart of the answer. Look to 1951 for help.

somehow it's alluding me. The hints others are giving are quite punny, in a way. I find Wikipedia to be most helpful for real world research, especially this puzzle.

I think I know what the substitution is supposed to be for 62D, but the clue (with force) it does not make sense to me. Nor does someone's suggestion of what happens to a car. Perhaps I have the wrong base word, or perhaps there is some colloquial meaning of the resulting word of which I an unfamiliar: DIME

a DIME is someone who is a 10!
As for the car reference
the spelling might just be a little differINT than what you are used to.

I need a hand with 6 down. Does it refer to a well known city in Israel beginning with a T?
