If you were a latecomer to C&C like me, the great fun of solving the puzzles and working through the stories was offset somewhat by the broken delivery method. I'm referring to things like:
Not to mention puzzles that were broken or had errors to begin with. The wiki, this forum, the IRC channel, and PMs from all of you were indispensable for us to complete the journey and I was/am super appreciative.
What I often imagined during and since, however, was an issue by issue supplement to C&C that would help fill in the gaps sufficiently to make C&C 1-3 a standalone experience that an individual or small group could use to actually solve it independently. I think MPC was going this direction with Vol 3 via the Codex by providing printable pages of just the curios that were required to solve the puzzles. Note that I am not talking about walkthroughs or puzzle hints (I'm looking at you, V4 codex!), but just the right info provided at the right time to fix the missing and broken parts. No doubt hints would still be needed, but at least you'll know that you have enough info to solve on your own.
Up until this point, I hadn't done anything with the idea, mostly because it seems like a lot of work and I wasn't sure if anyone would actually use it. But my daughter and her boyfriend/almost fiance love puzzles and they have been burning through my used Dispatch boxes pretty quickly together. I just purchased C&C 1-3 for them, and I plan on completing this project for them.
Conceptually, for each issue there would be:
It will be fun for me to go through C&C again a few years later and I think it will make for a more enjoyable process for new solvers. Of course I will make the info available to anyone here who wants it and I'm sure I will need some help here and there from the C&C community.
I'll keep everyone posted on my progress. Feel free to offer any ideas or suggestions. Thanks!
- Curios required to solve puzzles not provided with the issues (Volumes 1-2)
- Websites with media required to solve puzzles no longer on line
- How/when to become aware of the vaults
- How/when to receive the "missives" in Volume 3

Conceptually, for each issue there would be:
- Simple paper reproductions of all original curios (for things like the brass tags, both would be included)
- A list of any errors that affect the puzzles, less the "intentional" bungles
- Sealed envelopes with additional instructions triggered by specific things (i.e. "open this when you are directed to a website with X in the URL")
