Here is an early blog post of the original Cthulhu idol created by artist Colin Bolton, one of the founders of The Mysterious Package Company: propnomicon.blogspot.com/2012/10/cthulhu-fhtagn-bolton-edition.htmlThe mentioned link to wilybuilder.com is dead but archive.org saved this page: web.archive.org/web/20130414085403/http://www.wilybuilder.com/2012/09/cthulhu-idol/The choice of font color is unfortunate but a Ctrl-A will select-all the text so it can be viewed more easily. Sadly, the pictures were not archived but it's interesting to read how the idol and its peripheral documents and crate were created. Unless I have the dates wrong, I believe it predates the MPC and was given as a gift to "Misha" (perhaps Misha Schneider, another MPC founder?) If this is the case, it was the very first mysterious package created and given.

This really spotlights the roots of MPC. The love of the art. The attention to detail. The storycraft. For love, not money.

This was the second of two events that precipitated MPC, and the one that solidified who I wanted to work with.

Thanks, rob! What a pleasure to know the background of my Cthulhu statue and to see first photos of what would become an "experience."

I'l always been most fascinated by this one, but have not found any further information regarding the artifact.

I think that was just set up for a photo. The statue looks like something easily purchased.

When first reading about MPC (no,can't remember where) it was a story about music driving people crazy. Does anyone have information regarding to this? Must be at a time they still did bespoken experiences as I pondered about getting one.

That actually sounds like The Sound of Insanity, which wasn't an MPC experience but was created by forum member centaurofattn. Check this thread and see if that's it: curiosandconundrums.freeforums.net/thread/629/sound-insanity

Yes, does sound like it. But that's not what I meant. I'll try my Google Fu skills and try to see if I am able to find it.

May I humbly ask what the first event was, Sir? The first was an ARG that Misha and I did for my girlfriend's birthday that went simply swimmingly. "There's a business here," I said. "There sure is!" he replied. It was four years before the second event solidified that original idea: an ARG for a single person, with an artifact in a crate as the climax.
