I think we all wish Shelby Arnold well. But this sucks. At least with Kickstarter we'd get our dough back. Indiegogo is now something to be avoided.

Heck I'd be happy at this point with a 50% rebate. At least let me get some of my $$ back.

Interesting thoughts. I personally don’t believe a word of it. They couldn’t deliver and made something up. I previously had sellers tell me that their relative was dying, their sister had cancer and that THEY had cancer just because they couldn’t ship an item. Oh and they all found out about their misfortunes on the day they were to deliver something. Just saying.

It's extremely unlikely that a known person like Shelby Arnold would fake illness.

Robert Sabuda is okay though, right? Seems something could have been accomplished.

Exactly. Three people are in charge. Not one. That’s why people get scammed because they believe everything they read. I’m happy I’m not one of them. It’s 300,000 dollars - they need to give it back.

Carefully buried in the email they sent: “Your contributions are non-refundable by Indiegogo and are made at your sole risk based on the evaluation of the campaign you are backing.” Read: It’s your own fault for trusting us.

I have a theory about this that may or may not tie some things together; this is partly based on some new comments on the Indiegogo page. I wonder if Shelby Arnold has indeed fallen ill, but decided to use the funds from the project in order to help fund her medical bills. This would partly explain the oddity of shutting down the whole company when there are two other people involved. It's a total guess, and would still be extremely shady on their behalf, but it at least puts some of this into context.

No, we wouldn't get our money back with Kickstarter. Believe me. Indiegogo and Kickstarter have the same policy here. I was recently tricked out of some money by a guy who offered dice made of 10000 year old wood. And Kickstarter will to nothing for you to get your money back. You invest in an idea, you don't buy a product. If said idea doesn't deliver that's on you then.

I'm just going to leave this here... From www.indiegogo.com/about/terms#/legalobligationsLegal obligations of Campaign Owners As a Campaign Owner, you are entering into a legal agreement with a Contributor when they make a Contribution to your Campaign, which includes the following obligations (in addition to the all other Terms and Additional Policies): Make good faith efforts to fulfill the Perks associated with a Campaign in the timeframe that is communicated to Contributors. Immediately notify Contributors if there are obstacles or delays. Respond promptly and truthfully to all questions posed to them by Contributors. Provide substantive and quality updates at least once a month to Contributors. If you have received the Contributions from your Campaign, issue refunds to Contributors if you cannot deliver Perks. Comply with all applicable laws and regulations in the use of Contributions and delivery of Perks.

I just realized I never even got the “unfortunate news” email. I’m probably not even on the list anymore. If I knew of a way to convince them to even give me prototype boxes at this point, that would make me happy. I should have known better than to trust a bunch of New York artist types. For them the real world happens to other people. They live in a world where if you dream it up then, de facto, it’s real and true. I used to live in NY by the way, which is why when I retired I chose Kansas.

I hereby rechristen them Robber Seduba, ShellGame Arnold and Simon "Crimin'" Arizpe.
The "alternative perk" has me concerned. "I pledged the Armchair Detective Company $500 and all I got was this lousy T-shirt."

Comply with all applicable laws and regulations in the use of Contributions and delivery of Perks. To add, the Indiegogo rep said: “…campaigners are still held by our Terms of Use to fulfill perks. If for any reason they’re unable to offer you the perk you claimed, campaigners are obligated to reach out to their contributors and work out a mutually satisfactory resolution- this resolution could be an alternative perk, a promise to issue the promised perk at a later date if the campaign owner is able to raise additional funds, or a refund.” That said, Indiegogo can't mediate this between ADC and the backers. It's essentially all in good faith and judging by the email I think Robert is very much done with this project and moving on to his little Da Vinci Robota (on Kickstarter).

Can I now invoke the word "clusterfuck"? It seems appropriate.
