I have nothing to say out of the spoilers. I'm not sure this added anything to the experience. To me this is a flavor object it adds spice but it doesn't really advance any story. It barley feels like anything more than the magazine article retold, I'm surprised they avoided using the phrase "fishing the kraken". Basicly we have the story of a fishing boat that went down in the general area that has been previously mentioned in other chapters after killing a shark. Jonas Ramos is a terrible name for a boat. I would disagree that this doesn't advance the story. My Fiance and I both think that SP/SD might in fact be Sarah. So the source of all these mailings might be the daughter who lost her father to whatever is lurking in the North Sea. This is only a theory. But I think discounting this as less of the story seems a little shortsighted. We'll have to see as more mailings arrive.

Thats the best theory as to whom the orginator of the mailings is that I heard. But even if that's true I still think this is still little more than a flavor update.

Images sans the note in spoiler Just out of curiosity, does your note include your name handwritten at the top? I purchased the diamond bespoke experience, but have yet to receive anything all that personalized besides the name being included (but that's not worth double the price?).

It definitely does not have my name.

Huh well that is interesting. I'm extremely disappointed in this mailing. My husband has been super excited by the experience, hasn't figured out the mystery of who is behind it, and really thought it could be real until now. But this was so extremely corny he is no longer interested :/

Chin up, Mrs. Conrad - in this day and age it is a miracle that he did believe in the validity of the mailings this far! And while in a perfect world the mystery of what it is, who did it and how it would be resolved would be preserved from start to finish, there is only disappointment in hinging your enjoyment of the story on that alone.
Besides, this is the mailing I most expect people to figure out the nature of the beast from; I said it back when we made the stretch goal, Mr. Meer is rather well known, and if they did not distort his voice something fierce he will be recognized.
It is a shame though that your husband lost interest in the story - are you maybe sharing the experience with other people who could drag him along in their excitement?

Yes I have been, not sure how to encourage him on other than coming clean. He was so disappointed, he stopped listening to it 6 minutes in. I'm considering coming clean just so he will enjoy it for what it is at this point. I never expected he would get this far without figuring some aspect out, so while I didn't hinge all the enjoyment of the experience on that, I wasn't expecting it to be ruined by MPC themselves. Usually they are so on top of it in the quality department.

I don't know, it seems to me if you can accept the diary pages then the sound bite should not be too out there. He didn't even make it past the slice of life stuff. Updated map in spoiler. Here is the updated map. The red dots are the locations in the prologue, the dark blue dot is from the web article in chapter one, the black dot is the location from the letter with the photo, the purple area is the area where the brothers boat could have went down. The grey thing in the purple is the approximate location that the Jonas Ramos went down. i946.photobucket.com/albums/ad303/Mad0Hatter/fairy%20dissert_1.png Link to bigger

Yeah he was skeptical about the diary pages, but was able to shrug them off as he wasn't really sure what to think of them. This mailing, not so much.

The more I mull it over, the more I think that this mailing isn't exactly a real chapter so much as The Bonus Chapter? Some people have thought the mailing was a little thin to be Chapter 3, particularly if Bronze is only getting a mash-up of Chapters 1 and 3 for their experience. I find myself wondering if that's true because it essentially combines two of the stretch goals into one mailing, The Bonus Chapter and The Artistic Voice enhancement. Maybe it combines three of the stretch goals (I don't actually have it in my hands yet, I have high hopes for Monday) by giving us a trailhead.

Chapter 3 was described on the kickstarter like; So this is definitely not chapter 3. So I have to say that I'm a little disappointing by the speed of the gold experience. Technically gold hasn't gotten their interlude yet, I'd be totally OK with this being an interlude, but I'm still waiting on a substantial mailing. But I also kind of wonder if like the pages from the magazine (which don't show on my account page as an official mailing) if it was just sent out because gold and below have been waiting so very long.
As for if it's the bonus chapter it is it's it's kind of weak compared to chapter one and two. I mean they could have thrown in some redacted or just plain stolen police files for the sake provenance. I mean that would have gone father to making the recording more believable than the sealed evidence bag. But like I said I just don't think this mailing adds much. Even if the the theory that SP is the daughter of the recorder holds true I just don't see that as being central to the story so far.

Usually they are so on top of it in the quality department. As long as he is not about to throw out everything he received so far, maybe it will not hurt to wait out the next mailing - if it is engaging enough, perhaps he will get back to this mailing then? You could still come clean if he can not bring himself to dig any further then. Personally, I found this rather fun, but I am easily pleased. A stray observation regarding the character at the center of this mailing and the presentation of the connected stretch goal in the kickstarter campaign: The way this mailing ends, one would assume we are done with Jake - the distress call went unheeded at the time, and the audio cassette was recovered from the Jonas Ramos' wreck. Outside the story, the Voice Upgrade stretch goal referred to "a number of voice recordings among the chapters of The Century Beast". Now this could be the five recordings included in this mailing, but I would not at all be surprised if we got to hear his voice again.

Thanks for the map, the0alchemist. I'm curious if anyone has tried analyzing the sound wave of the recording for clues. I haven't. I still haven't quite figured out what type of beast we're dealing with here. By that, I mean if there are "puzzles" for us to solve in this story, what type of puzzles are they? Are they narrative puzzles where we'll just need to connect the dots to fill in gaps in the story, or is this the sort of thing where we'll need to decode something or discover a password to unlock hidden content? Might we need to discover something we should do with this evidence or the evidence number? The note accompanying my evidence instructed me not to share the evidence or let anyone know I have it. Is that a sign that we should definitely share it with someone? I'm just speculating here. Thoughts?
