I discovered this yesterday and it seems intriguing. It's technically a "race to the finish" but I'm planning on treating it more casually and just taking it at my own pace, though I might be persuaded to join a team of people from the forums if enough people here are interested. I will say the basic entry fee is right (two whole dollars). Also, to perhaps entice you more, there have been some light ARG qualities for people who knew about it earlier, such as a postcard mailed out that had a hidden coded message discoverable only via blacklight. www.grandpasvcr.com/

Looks like fun! I kicked in a few bucks and am looking forward to it. The creator said he plans to start it on May 4th.

Not trying to be a pain or anything, but wouldn't this do better under Game Recommendations?

Not trying to be a pain or anything, but wouldn't this do better under Game Recommendations? This is an ARG/puzzle hunt where participants will potentially be discussing puzzles here in real-time. I've always thought of Game Recommendations as more static, commercial games like software and apps.

So for those of you who've backed/checked out the campaign, any theories on the puzzle hidden in the intro video (as mentioned in the code in the Indiegogo campaign)? Seems fairly clear to me that it has something to do with the cassettes, but wanted to see what everyone else thought.
Edit: I'm now less convinced that it's the cassettes and more related to the numbers that appear in sequence after the cassettes, but I haven't really sat down and worked through it yet.

The creator emailed me a digital copy of the postcard that was used to promote this, and it is one of the most maddening puzzle-related things I've ever experienced. It has multiple elements on it, most of which don't seem to be real/lead anywhere, and a cipher that has been cracked but no one understands how beyond a random Reddit user posting the answer. Here's a link to the image (it's an animated GIF): drive.google.com/file/d/0B8bI9VAvzNA5YVJseWhRRDJyUVhHZVVrT2Q3NjVEQTY2ZHJJ/view?usp=sharing

I just called the number, and if you listen all the way through, I think we are given a way to solve the cipher

Ooh, that quick message at the end of the phone number (Message 2) is going to be bothering me. There was speculation that the number is actually some kind of code, like it actually translates to letters somehow. It does say "Find us on the web" under the phone number...

Yes, I've tried several telephone keypad ciphers, but so far, rubbish... but I still think that is the start, also I found another photo of the postcard
