It's possible that the change of the coin was not planned. They might have been undershipped from China, or one of the boxes was lost. Or the quality of a whole bunch was poor so they had to be tossed. They also might have lost the original digital art for the old coin, and because they needed to make a new one, decided to change the art since the original could not be reproduced.

Here's a further photographic example of the first run artifact. I've only seen one person post an image of a poor-quality artifact. Perhaps it was more of a fluke than a systemic problem? In fact, the "extreme weathered" version looks like it was a bit of a fluke, as well. The other images look very similar.

The one I just received is pretty terrible... And my Egypt one is quite disappointing as well. I wouldn't really want to display either of them.

So, I decided that the only meaningful way to contribute further to this conversation would be to dig out my artifact, which I did. Note how different it looks when photographed in natural light (the front, and the interior) and artificial light (the back). It appears grayish in natural light, and yellowish in incandescent light.

I posted the original comparison photo on Facebook. Despite lighting differences, yours shows a lot more detail than mine. Some lines are faded away completely, and I'm afraid to handle it too much because I feel like what's there might rub off.

The only correct response in this scenario should have been "That looks terrible and is not representative of the product we intend to deliver. How can I get Customer Service in touch with you to fix this." Instead he stooped to Christopher Forrest levels. I do credit him for at least trying to pull out of his nose dive, though.

This really is an interesting thread, as even the artifacts from the original run do each look slightly different. I'm especially intrigued by the differences in weathering. Compared to the ones posted here, mine looks to be the most weathered on the top, though nothing close to the one on the left in the comparison photo. I'm almost wondering if we should start threads for artifacts from other Experiences to compare appearances.

I just got here and already found Christopher Forrest haters. The man is a legend. He threatened to sue me over an eBay listing for one of his boxes.

There's a few photos in our Facebook group showing poor hunt for the forgotten Tomb artifact quality. Seems like they're cutting corners lately.

I'm happy with the quality of mine (I pre-ordered it right when it first went on sale) but just wasn't in love with the Artifact itself, both as an item and as the big climax to the narrative. Happy to post a picture of mine in the Facebook group and here for comparison. I do remember seeing here at one point an anecdote that their Artisan left the company, so perhaps that has something to do with it.

To me, an MPC Experience used to mean a hand-made art piece with hero props giving it a back-story. The quality was what justified the price. If they're not delivering a piece that stands up to close inspection, they're not worth the exorbitant price tag.

I received one from a pre-order that was decent quality except it broke in shipping. They replaced it, but the replacement was much lower in quality, with no weathering at all and air bubbles from the casting process. Either they rushed it and/or their molds are shot.

I've seen much worse. Still... Those air bubbles...
