Of which I am definitely one. I'm always looking for better litter box solutions. This showed up on my radar about a year or so ago. Just wanted to share so all cat lovers know about it. I have no monetary interest in this enterprise, though I may back it and see if it's as good as I hope. In case it's not clear (I know my eyesight isn't all that great anymore), it is a kickstarter campaign. But the only puzzle is how to convince your cats to clean their own litter? purrfectsift.com/Just sharing!

Same guy tried the same thing two years ago....
I think my cats wouldn't touch it with a barge pole....it'll still be the cat flap for them!

As a newish cat owner (had cats when I was growing up but they were outdoor cats so litter wasn't an issue), I'm still new to the whole litter box thing. We've been happy with just a standard litter box that has a lid that unhooks so there's easy access when scooping and using really high quality clay-based litter. I've read in several places that automatic litter boxes are bad, but I've never really understood why. Like here's an article from a site I mostly trust that "recommends" one but really says to use a traditional litter box: thewirecutter.com/reviews/best-automatic-cat-litter-box-but-we-dont-recommend-it/

I had one of the litter maid litter boxes maybe almost 10 years ago (different cats as well - long sad story). The cats hated it. Every time it turned on, it sounded like a jet fighter was coming in for a landing, and the cats would run. At the time I remember it was a HUGE cost for my very poor little pocket book. But I was willing! Sadly, the cats informed me of their displeasure in multiple ways.
And these were good cats. I could prop my front door open (about 10 or 15 feet from the street) and they would lay about the front yard. These two kids walked a massive German Shepherd past the house twice a day. My cats just watched him walk by, and he never even looked at the cats. The first time it happened I almost had a heart attack, visions of hamburger kitty being swallowed whole. But it was all good. The cats never left the front yard. I (stupidly) thought all cats were so well behaved. Well, the Empress of the Universe has put me in my place!
And definitely some cats (and owners) will never be happy with an electric litter box.

Yeah, I don't really mind scooping litter, though I'm saying that when I only have one small cat (about ten pounds). She is definitely skittish when it comes to loud sudden noises (we also live on a very quiet street, so she doesn't hear sudden noises much at all). Believe me, my dog is MUCH more of a hassle in every way.

Looking how high it is off the ground I can tell my older cat would never use it. She’s very arthritic and I can’t see her jumping up to climb into a litter box like that. My other cat is much younger but he is a fraidy-cat and probably would never go near it.

Believe me, my dog is MUCH more of a hassle in every way. I am slave to four mistresses. We are supposed to have at least five litter boxes (common recommendation: one each plus a spare). I have enough trouble keeping four mostly clean. And the Empress gives me the impression that she expects a new bag of litter in HER box (I.e. Any of the four at any given time) every day. Yeah, well, when she starts paying for the litter and a housekeeper I'll consider it. But cats are so lovable. Have you noticed that when they play, they play like wrestlers? It's better than the WWF.

She's not as good at jumping as she used to be. She can still do it, but she prefers to land on soft things, like the bed or my tummy.

Purrfect timing! We just got a new little sweet kitty and since the old cat never used the litter box(but our whole neighborhood instead) we are kinda new to the amount of litterboxcleaning that comes with it. Hopefully she will switch eventually to the garden, but for now she has to stay indoors for 4 weeks to accommodate. So in the long term this might be an issue or it might be not. Time will tell. My..having a little one is heaven!!!

The Kickstarter has been canceled due to lack of interest. Oh well.
