Unfortunately, the lack of foresight the MPC have had in their sitting room disaster is partly to blame here. I'm going to spoiler the whole thing so anyone doing this puzzle in future can have the information, too. I will not give answers in the following spoiler.
We have most of the pertinent information that was lost archived. Besides this resource, there's the Wikia put together by ChelseaMC and TheBardess here:
curios-and-conundrums.wikia.com/wiki/Curios_and_Conundrums_Wiki
Doing the back issues in a catchup without the curios can be tricky, but they're well-documented and we're always willing to help, both here and in the chat room ( client00.chat.mibbit.com/ , server= irc.chat-solutions.org, room= #MPC). Working the issues in real-time is much less confusing, I promise.
In the original mailing of this issue, three cards were sent randomly. Until recently, only two were found, but we have them all now.
Card one: On one side, the King In Yellow graphic. On the other side, "A Danish nobleman with an unlucky name."
Card two: On one side, the Tempus Fugit clock. On the other side, "An arctic bird's view of Grendel's foe."
It's this card, specifically, that tells you why you need the link Todd specified.
When we had the Sitting Room, sometimes "Bernard" would come and give hints. He gave three here, which were lost when the Sitting Room disappeared. They gave second clues to the same things the cards did, and thus we could figure out what the third card should have said.
The three cards gave us three books. The hint from Bernard for the third card was "If you are looking for a man who's handshake gives you the shivers, it is vital you determine his capacity for ovum consumption."
For this particular puzzle, one of those books is necessary for the solving of the Hands of Time cipher.
