sleuthkings.com/?v=7516fd43adaa So has anyone heard of this? I will admit I have bought the first case and should be receiving it soon. I just got rid of anyone monthly service since there was no consistency to their meta-mystery so was looking for something to take it's place. Has anyone interacted with this company?

Looks interesting. Haven't seen or heard of this one before. Might have to try one out.

I think I'm going to wait and try this one out in digital form first. I just have so many boxes that I subscribe to, and there's so little to go on from this that I'd rather try the I assume cheaper version of it first. Thanks for the tip!

Cutoff for the next subscription is 1 day and about 6 hours. I decided to try it. So I'm subscribed for February. Anyone else subscribed?

Yeah, Todd reminded us of this and I went ahead and bought their archives (really not that expensive, especially considering free shipping). kas814 did you try this out? What did you think?

Yeah, Todd reminded us of this and I went ahead and bought their archives (really not that expensive, especially considering free shipping). kas814 did you try this out? What did you think? It was okay but the email computer type of interface they used frustrated me. I would have the correct answer but the automated responses would want a different format than what I would enter. I tried it for two months and then decided I would try something else.

So I subscribed to Sleuth Kings on a monthly subscription rate. So my first case with them will be #5. As a thank you for subscribing and so I didn't have to wait almost a month for the case - they sent me Case #4 for free. I like it....it was overly difficult...took me less than an hour to solve the case but some of it was pretty clever and the email interface wasn't too bad. I'm not sure it is worth the money yet, we will see. When I concluded the case I was told to watch my mail as the client would be sending me a thank you gift.

I brought the archive too and have complete the free intro included in the box this evening. A little different and lighter on the brain tcompared to everything else I subscribe to, but I enjoyed it.

I wanted to chime in and say that I've been doing Sleuth Kings for a while now (I've completed every case except for the one that just got released, which I'm working through right now), and I highly recommend it. This latest case (Case 8) is really impressive, with a lot of solid and diverse types of puzzles, some big physical artifacts, and a compelling storyline that includes documents from different eras. Also of interest to some here, as far as I can tell no online puzzles at all. While not all of the boxes have been home runs, they've at least all been solid, and this latest one in particular is one of the better boxes I've done from any of these companies. Might be hard to get started with Case 8 (especially since it directly follows the storyline from Case 7), but still.
Also of note to those of you who may have tried it out at first and been annoyed by the email system to get clues and check answers, it's been VASTLY improved from the early days. Now you just submit answers and get new info; Sullivan doesn't need to send you dozens of emails anymore like in the early days. Way more user-friendly and intuitive.

dmikester, thanks for the recommendation. I might try this out. If I jump in, do I enter the story midstream, or start from Case 1?

dmikester , thanks for the recommendation. I might try this out. If I jump in, do I enter the story midstream, or start from Case 1? It's a tough call to be honest, and perhaps one of the "weaknesses" of this particular subscription box. Most of the cases are standalone, and when you solve a case and submit the answer, a couple of days later you get sent a free epilogue of sorts, usually a letter from the person you helped thanking you and some kind of small thank you gift from them. However, also included in each epilogue mailing is a separate letter that concerns the big mystery of the whole subscription, namely what happened to the main character's father (he mysteriously vanished a number of years ago, and now there's an anonymous person feeding you info about where he might be). Those letters are sequential and while they feature recaps of sorts for people who subscribe late, the recaps are just the answers to puzzles that you put into a special website that gives you more info. Another thing is that for every four cases you solve, you get sent a free bonus case (a full box with a ton of puzzles) related to the missing father narrative. I love this structure and it's kept me quite engaged with the experience, but it might be intimidating to come in so late to the narrative. With all that said, right now is perhaps the perfect time to jump in, as a new set of four cases is about to start, and while the missing father narrative is great, you can probably get caught up with it via the recaps. Except for Cases 7 and 8, which were really a two part story albeit one where you didn't need items from the first part to solve the second part, all the boxes have been fully standalone. What I'd probably recommend doing is signing up for the free mystery on sleuthkings.com (https://sleuthkings.com/free-mystery/). You'll get sent a free postcard with a very fun puzzle on it that's in the basic style of the types of puzzles you can expect from this, and that postcard will introduce you to the father narrative. If you enjoy it, I'd probably say start with Case 9 (the most recent case) at this point, and if you really dig it, you can go back to the archives (all previous boxes are available for purchase). In general, the shipping times and responsiveness of the creator have been, hands-down, the best of any experience/subscription box I've done, so you could also reach out to them and ask what they think would be the best thing to do (average response time for me when contacting them is, I'm not joking about this, ten to fifteen minutes).

I sent off a query to Sleuth Kings, because I wasn't sure if I'd miss any story without starting with the archives, and I got this response: It sounds like it really doesn't matter which case you start at -- the big story will be revealed based on number of cases solved, not which ones you solve. I'm signed up now and looking forward to my first case. I'll probably end up ordering cases from the archives as well. BTW, dmikester , they responded in less than 15 minutes to my enquiry; you were right about how responsive they are.

I stand corrected about how the overarching story works; that makes much more sense. Great, I hope you enjoy it. I will say that unless they've updated the format of the older cases, the email system for the first I'd say 4 or 5 cases is pretty frustrating; it gets much better and more streamlined in later cases.
