I had forgotten about this game until recently when its sequel came out, but this is tailor-made for many of us here: theguidesapp.com/It's a puzzle game app with a story, many ciphers to crack, and it requires some careful pattern recognition and reading between the lines. It can be a little bizarre at times, but the companion app called the Compendium, which is where most of the main story lies, is well-written and very intriguing, and many of the puzzles are clever and can get pretty challenging as you progress. I haven't touched the sequel yet, Axiom, but I'll be sure to eventually.

I'm definitely coming back to this since I already have my hands full catching up on Curios and Conundrums, but I'm very intrigued.

Just wanted to follow up on this post and highly recommend the "sequel" to this, The Guides Axiom. I put sequel in quotes because while it is loosely a sequel as far as the narrative goes, it's designed so that a total newbie could start it and more or less be caught up quickly; the narrative is mostly vague anyways, so not a big deal.
The Guides Axiom is free (you can choose to pay money to support them and to get hints if you must, but it's entirely optional) and beautifully designed with dozens and dozens of puzzles that, while seemingly simple, often have hidden layers to them that connect to other puzzles. It's very C&C Volume 3 in that regard.

Started it in the car on a ride across the state and accidentally found the last page pretty early on. Naturally I would skip to the end but be stuck moving forward in the beginning haha

Naturally I would skip to the end but be stuck moving forward in the beginning haha The intriguing thing to me about Axiom as opposed to the original is that it's actually non-linear. You can get to Level 100 (which is actually blank at the moment) somewhat quickly, but that's not an end-point. There are some deviously hidden puzzles within puzzles so far, and what they unlock is...unsettling to put it mildly. I 100%ed it yesterday, but that's 100% as in what they have available. There are still something like 50-60 levels that are missing and will I'm sure be added next year.

I’ve been going through it over the last few days. I’m about halfway through level 4. It is a lot of fun and challenging.
