I just worked through Box 1 and I'm somewhat conflicted, but overall feeling pretty positive about the experience. On the pro side, I'm digging the story depth, and I'm impressed with the quality of the individual mailing elements, which are realistic enough to maintain my suspension of disbelief and keep me fully immersed. On the con side, like others here I found the box to be a bit puzzle-light for my taste. I found myself underwhelmed by the possibly too-simple structure of solve hidden puzzle 1 to unlock hidden puzzle 2, solve hidden puzzle 2 to unlock hidden puzzle 3, solve hidden puzzle 3 to win. I'd have loved to see a few extra puzzles that function within the framework of -- but are not strictly required to advance through -- that core puzzle progression. Side puzzles that provide reward not in the form of plot progression, but in added detail and context. Then again, I know the general consensus seems to be that Box 2 really ups the puzzle ante, so maybe I'll see more of what I'm looking for there.

I wouldn't say it 'really ups the ante'... it's less of a daisy chain, and they're better than the first box (but still relatively easy to solve).

it's less of a daisy chain I'll take what I can get!

Several of the best puzzle solvers I know (and well, also me) were flummoxed by some of the puzzles in the third box. In fact, I felt kind of beat up by the third box, as I’d spend what seemed like forever on a puzzle only to get to the next one and get stuck all over again. They’re definitely upping the difficulty as they go.

My third box finally made it through customs today, just finished it. They are definitely stepping up their game, the book stuff was great fun and the other puzzles did lead logically on from each other. I did stumble on the last password, didn't think I'd need to translate kanji to do it, but after ten minutes trying all permutations of Cynthia Jenkins and Mahiro Hashi it seemed the next logical step. --- The big difference between this and CnC V4? I still have Clockwork sat here, unread, from a week or so ago. This arrived today and I wanted to work through it all in a couple of hours. Gotta find the motivation to do the same with CnC.

Ironically, because my wife is fluent in Japanese and I've picked up some ability to read and write it as a result, that last password took me roughly five seconds to answer. It was everything else that tripped me up, well other than the origami, which was fun. But seriously, the chopsticks/fan puzzle was devious, and for some reason my brain just did not make the leap needed for the very beginning with the puzzler page.

I'm working through Dispatch with my Perplex City/Curious & Condundrums buddy, and we're eager to tackle some hearty challenges after the first box whet our appetites.

I have to say that I'm finding Dispatch by Break Out to be a suitable replacement to C&C, especially since the puzzles are getting harder. True that there are only about 3-4 puzzles every release, but it is done on a monthly basis instead of quarterly. I love that I don't have to wait months and months for the next installment and the story is progressing nicely. I also like the interaction between some of the objects in the box too. For example, the key to solving one was having to fold an origami crane.
If I could only afford one subscription right now...it would be this one.

Have to say the folks at Dispatch are great. My #4 box is floating somewhere in the ether space of the USPS. I happened to post on the user group on Facebook that the USPS had misplaced my box and were trying to find it. One of the folks at Dispatch saw my post and they are not waiting for confirmation that the package is lost...a new one is being sent out to me today.

"sigh" I had the exact same problem. I contacted them via email and heard nothing, and then late last night I used Bailey Detectives and got really frustrated when I didn't hear back from them early this morning. Then out of nowhere, I had an "Order Confirmed" email, then 15 minutes later, I got an "Order Shipped" confirmation, and soon after the shipping confirmation, I got a personal message apologizing and giving me 30% off of the next box. In my case, it was some weird glitch on their end with my credit card not getting processed and then them not getting notification that something was wrong (clearly they're not using the greatest system, as my credit card is perfectly fine). I'd reach out to Ember Moran (emoran@breakoutgames.com).
