Is that from a second season? I've gotten 3 boxes so far and that name doesn't sound familiar. It is the interlude between season one and season two.

They're doing a two box "interlude" between seasons called Marlow's Game, and Box 2 just got delivered. The second season of the main story (which we assume will still take place in Breakout City though perhaps not with the same characters from Season 1) should start next month. I absolutely loved Box 1 of Marlow's Game, and am in the middle of solving Box 2, which has been solid but doesn't flow nearly as well as Box 1 did (and has featured two very questionable puzzles so far).

Did you guys also get the email from Breakout lately, about ideas for promotion? Yeah, but I was thinking of stopping after box2 of Marlow - I don't like that so much of everything is online.

I wrote a long review to them about this, apparently they have had much feedback along the same lines and the next season gets back to the majority offline components and decent bits and bobs in the box. What worries is that they are still losing money...

I think Marlow is designed intentionally to be mostly online and is perhaps an experiment with that format. I personally like the online stuff, but I get why others wouldn't; the first season had a much better balance of offline and online for sure. What I'm more concerned about is that there's a pretty alarming drop in puzzle quality between Box 1 and Box 2 of Marlow. Box 1 I thought was great and flowed really well, and I loved a couple of the puzzles in it. Box 2 has been like pulling teeth; you can find one of the "hidden" things easily, and there's a series of online puzzles that pretty much make no sense and that I needed to contact Bailey about. Not good.

Not good. Yeah, I think what's bugging me is spending 25$ + the international shipping for a fancy box containing a few scraps of paper that don't add up to anything concrete on their own. The last few boxes seem to be about 60% or more online content...and even that's a bit formulaic: find a web address, answer a series of questions based on trivia spelled out in the random bits of paper that are there only to provide the trivia answer, watch video. I really liked the Africa box that had different bits of code scrawled all over *everything* with multiple mystery story lines in play, but Greece, Switzerland, and Marlow box 1 have fallen flat for me.

Well, I finally solved Box 2 of Marlow's Game and it's a massive disappointment. It's so bad that I may cancel Dispatch if I don't get a good answer from them about why the puzzle quality and storytelling went so downhill. Please feel free to PM me if you need help (I have a feeling you'll need it for one of the online puzzle chains).

(Given that I’m already planning to cancel after this?)

(Given that I’m already planning to cancel after this?) Honestly, I'd probably say don't bother with it, or at least make it your lowest priority if you're solving other things. Without spoiling anything, there isn't really a resolution to the (already thin) story, and there are a lot of holes in the puzzles. The more I think about it, I think I'm going to ask for a refund.
