V1-05 The Venerable Store of Nell
Puzzles
As is often the case, this issue of C&C contains various other puzzles, aside from the standard weekly Crossword puzzle and Picture Commonalities.
If you have yet to discover any such mysteria, you might prefer to first examine your copy more closely. Often it is the smallest details that go unnoticed...
Spotted: A Puzzle, Barely Spotted
Hints:
There were three cards, one of them (presumably) depicting something related to this puzzle.
As far as this reporter is able to comprehend, the card's corresponding book cipher was discovered in part by figuring out the next clue, which is a common boy's name.
I cannot confirm with any amount of certainty the title to which this clue refers.
Here is what I can tell you (off the record, of course):
The boy's name is indeed important, and it does point towards the cipher that you will need. But how did they figure this out? What details are provided in the aforementioned cards that could point them to this name?
Perplexing indeed. Nevertheless, the name itself, I am fairly certain, is the next clue.
The name is often spoken alongside three other names.
M-, M-, (?), and J-
If you've heard these names spoken together this way as many times as I have, it sort of starts to just roll off the tongues.
At this point you may be thinking you've found the Truth, as did the devoted members who initially pondered this mystery.
But there was uncertainty about which, of two different stories, was the correct one.
First, there was an ancient Gospel, a name from days of old.
But then came a more modern tale, a nickname synonymous with cold.

Or if you prefer more of a narrative sense of the story so far, see the standard Newcomer's Guide

Find the "The Bound Man".
"The Bound Man" is followed by similarly inconspicuous sets of numbers. You might need an ocular aid of some sort.
Hints:
You will need to revisit the past. If however, like me, some of your history with the C&C is limited strictly to paper correspondence, without the benefit of the physical objects and artifacts, you can see photos and descriptions for these missed objects on the C&C Wiki "Articles from Curios and Conundrums"
