So the idea of a gathering in Germany intrigued me…unfortunately a trip to Europe is not in my budget.
So I thought I would throw this out to all of you...and see what you think...
I keep thinking it would be fun for all of us hardcore puzzlers to get together in Toronto. I have helped plan small conferences and seminars before, so I have some knowledge of how to do this.
My thought was next year - say - early June [or this October if folks want]- to have a weekend gathering in Toronto.
This is my vision:
I think the historic Omni King Edward hotel would be a great place to stay ....they have a bar called the Consort Bar - which I think would be a nice place to have as a social gathering point (i.e. the "Sitting Room").
Everyone arrives and socializes Friday afternoon and evening - no formal events.
On Saturday morning- we would all head to the Royal Ontario Museum for a mystery/scavenger hunt put on by a company that runs them. The mystery is this:
"A curator has been murdered and a trail of clues left behind, connected to secrets in the collections.
Working in teams of 2-6 people, you follow the clues through the museum, collecting pieces of information while piecing together a tale of greed, lust, pride and revenge. There are multiple suspects, one victim and you, the sleuths, must crack a cryptic code left in the curator’s appointment book to solve the mystery.
After your adventure, use your museum admission to explore more of the ROM’s world famous collections.”
Then mystery takes several hours...and after I thought I would allow time for people to explore the museum or do things on their own.
Then in the late afternoon/early evening to a Segway tour through the historic distillery district which is a huge collection of Victorian industrial buildings.
Finally, the day would end with a dinner in a private dining room at a nice restaurant. My goal would also be to see if I could get one or two members of the MPC to come speak to us at the dinner.
..maybe we can ply them with drinks and get them to reveal a hint about solving Harvest Time.
Sunday everyone returns home.
The cost would not be cheap. Cost for the hotel, events and dinner would probably end up being about $700. This would not include travel there and other meals and sundries. But if we got a small group of 10 people I think it would a great time. Thoughts?
