You didn't misunderstand.  The MPC decided to pull a fast one on us.  I am in the same boat.  Not continuing but got charged as well.  See this thread: curiosandconundrums.freeforums.net/thread/619/warning-charged-permission

Basically from what I heard back from the MPC, they claim to have changed their terms with the email on the 29th.  That's pretty funny cuz, in the email they weren't exactly transparent.  Furthermore, nothing changed on the web site, and it still said you had to opt in to be charged.  I feel lied to.

Thank you for clarifying.  I suppose the pewter weight would create the hefty shipping fee....

Still, a third of the price for shipping though?  Whew.  Going to buy a book on Amazon instead.

Could you be more of an arse?  Sorry for working hard and being exhausted, apparently.  And if you want to get technical, it's a $10 increase, because I was charged $34.99.  Some of the others here were also charged $34.99, so I assumed that was what people in the U.S. were charged across the board.  Or were you privileged to being charged $5 less?

This is all irrelevant.  For the same price or less I can acquire things that will have a much better value for price paid.  Simple as that.  And let's not get huffy about this peeps.  Value is different for everybody.  What I value doesn't have to be the same as yours.  I'm really not sure why this needs spelling out. 

Bottom line:  Do as you please, just be kind, yeah?  No need to get in peoples faces over opinions.

Eleduar, while I understand that you're frustrated and mad about this situation, what I was reacting to in my response is that you asked a question regarding whether people in the US were charged more, which I directly responded to with a factual statement regarding the pricing arrangement for those of us in the US, and you reacted with the above quoted statement and seemed to say that facts are irrelevant towards forming an opinion.  I was not agreeing or disagreeing with your feelings about being erroneously charged, and was certainly not being unkind, but instead was just presenting the facts so that someone brand new to C&C who was seeing this thread would be able to form their own opinion based around the facts.  

You are of course entitled to your opinion, and I promise that I wasn't trying to change it, but what I'm not sure about is why you're getting mad at me when you ask questions that seem on the surface to be earnest questions about pricing, and then when you are given answers that don't fit with your view of the situation you lash out and think that I'm being huffy. I could absolutely be mis-reading your response, and if I am, I apologize. 

Believe me, I'm not happy at all about the change in direction of C&C and have let the MPC know, and after a recent fantastic experience with another company doing a somewhat similar kind of thing (The Decoder Ring Organization) which provided an enormous amount of high quality items and storytelling (and a handful of excellent puzzles) for less than double the cost of C&C, the recent downturn in C&C's quality and overall value is even more acute for me.
