This is a total guess, but perhaps there will be two different levels of puzzles for this Volume. The ones that we're all experiencing now (or, sigh, that I have to wait until tomorrow to get to) are surface-level puzzles that are much more straightforward and geared towards the more casual puzzle solver. Then, once all issues are released, a Vault will appear that requires more difficult and multi-layered puzzle solving like the Daytime Locks from Volume 3, and those answers will not be provided in the Codex. That seems like a good compromise that would allow for a wider audience of people to feel like they solved puzzles and got a lot out of the experience while also providing us more "hardcore" puzzlers an extra challenge that's more in line with what we're used to.

Mine hasn't arrived yet, dangit. But thanks for all the non-spoilery insights. It's raising my anticipation level even higher!

I would have preferred a separate "box" subscription from the C&C and kept the C&C what it was. That way the hardcore puzzlers could still get their fix with C&C and the others could get their goodies.
Pining for the days of Vol 3 already. The vault opened too soon.

I have mine, and from what I see the general puzzles are both much easier, and the hints on the CNC are more obvious.
I am worried that they have spent their efforts making the packaging and curios better, but spent a bit less time on those of us looking for a deep challenge.
Hopefully there is some other level that I haven't spotted yet...and a vault/vault like construct for the answers?

First impression: disappointment. I'd overlook a lot of it if the paper really delivered, but it didn't.
That said, I really didn't like V3Ch1, either, but I felt that V3Ch2 was much better. I think I'll hang in there for one more, probably.

So, my son zoned in on automaton and has been working on it all day. I know that this isn't necessarily puzzle related but he has certainly found a new hobby and I am amazed he has the patience for it. It was a neat addition for our family. I don't have too much previous experience to lean on but I would be so sad if it didn't have a longer story arc.

Hey MOLE!!!!!!! Where is my rabbit hole? !!!! feeling lost...wandering through the pages of the C&C looking for the entrance to that other world. Where is my hunt, the thrill of the chase, my feeling involved and part of the story? The thrill of victory at revealing an answer that opens a Vault door?? After making my way through the challenges of Vol 1-3....I need MORE than this.

So for those of you that haven't noticed, full hints and solutions for all the obvious puzzles are given on the cnc extension page. At first I was dissapointed to see this, but then I noticed that all the hints are individually clickable so you can reveal them one at a time if you need them and also they made interactive puzzles for all the puzzles, so if you just want a single letter hint for the crossword puzzle, you can click on a specific square to see that one letter instead of the whole grid, so you can pick and choose what help you get. I may have to revise my original impression. I have been enjoying the articles (am I the only one?) and only just started to touch the puzzles. It is disappointing to hear that the answers are all readily available. While by no means have I been able to solve everything on my own I am much happier getting a nudge from the forum rather than being able to get the answer directly. Where's the fun in that? From my perusal so far I do feel there is more than meets the eye... Just can't tell what it is yet.

I'm of the opinion the MPC is easily swayed by feedback. If you feel the latest reinvention is missing something, reach out to them.

So what do we do with the answers to puzzles if there is no vault to enter them into?

So what do we do with the answers to puzzles if there is no vault to enter them into? We are desperately waiting to find out. Hopefully deeper puzzles will become available. And maybe a vault!!!

Reminder: Vol. 3 Vault didn't appear until issue 2 was out. We sat with mystery words, and nothing to do with them for months.

FYI - I sent an email to my Concierge at the MPC with my feedback on the issue. The response was:
Thank you for taking the time to write and let us know your thoughts on the new C&C! I have shared your words with the entire creative team for their consideration, and know this will factor into the decisions they make for upcoming issues! Of course, should you have any further questions, comments, or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me forthwith.

My box came with some damage to the "book" packaging and with a lot of the contents shifted. It took some careful taping to get it back to a presentable form. I, like many, was disappointed to see the newspaper is thinner.
That being said, I must confess I was never a skilled "puzzler." I spent a lot of time with Volume 3 and this forum trying to solve puzzles that others got easily, and I'm lost in the second layer of puzzles. I never had a problem with this - it is how you learn, after all - but I'm not going to complain if there are more hints available from MPC.
The papercraft and the prestige Curio are excellent, however. There's enough in this to make me wait for the second box. At that point, I'll see if the quality remains consistent.
