OK, I have a confession to make. I thought I was going to cancel Hunt A Killer, but Box 8 was really good, and today I got the Season 1 recap (something I've been asking them about for months) and was even more impressed. Honestly, the price of the whole first season was roughly equivalent to an Experience from MPC, and it had a lot of content and some interesting puzzles. I still think the pacing (and the puzzles) could be better, but now that I have the whole first season in front of me and understand the big picture, and see that they're making the second season shorter, which would help some with the pacing, I'm likely going to keep my subscription.

So happy to hear this. I'm on Box 2, and I find all the online research very time consuming. It's interesting, but I don't always have the time to devote. Since I signed up for 12 months, I'll be getting the start of season 2 as well.

I will say that right now with their premium experiences they're batting .500 for me. I loved 1934 (which is now totally sold out) and I think it might be the single most impressive unboxing experience of anything I've gotten, and yes that includes the MPC. While the mystery wasn't spectacular in that one, it was still a well-told story and the epilogue in particular was tragic. The promo video for 1934 was also remarkably creepy and convinced me to get it despite the high price.
1968 was much less notable, and honestly seemed overpriced for an extremely obvious whodunnit, well-made but not interactive items like 1934, and an incredibly tedious puzzle that didn't even really reveal all that much when solved. The promo video for 1968 was also OK but nowhere near the quality of 1934's.
I ended up going ahead and purchasing 1973 (especially because they sent me a special "pre-preorder" email with a 20% discount two days ago), but I'm a little bit wary, because I think the video looks really cheesy, and not in an intentional throwback to the '70s way, but as in cheaply produced and with unconvincing acting. Still, I love the audacity of including an entire album (and on vinyl no less) and it's hard for me to overlook them including a one of a kind T-shirt that's actually part of the experience and not a bonus item like the MPC's shirts.

For people who have continued to season 2.. what's different or improved about it from season 1? I cancelled after finishing S1 because I felt that it was missing a "through-line" most of the time and there didn't seem to be much explicitly to do.

I have bought all three premiums and I agree with dmikester about the experience and also couldn't resist the extra bit off of 1973. I am hoping that the experiences grow as their monthly boxes have expanded. To answer macindc , I am currently in season 2 on box 4, the story has evolved to a point that shows the company has really listened to it's customer base. I belong to a facebook online group and we have been blown away on the story progression. HaK has sent out survey's and asks for explicit good, bad, and what would make it better comments. I believe they are using this to continually evolve. This month a season 1 recap came out that helped shed light on puzzles and explain the symbolism of items. They didn't reveal anything connected with season 2 but it was nice validation on theories and it added a bit more insight on some things that you may have noticed but not placed significance in.

I very much agree with kimberlyann on them listening to customer feedback; it gets implemented almost immediately. I pitched the idea of a Season 1 recap to them a couple of months ago, and while I'm not going to pretend that I was the only one with the idea, its arrival coincided directly with me getting Box 8, and was everything I could have asked for; I went from not caring at all about the main storyline and being ready to cancel to now feeling really invested and eager to find out what happens next.
To make a weird analogy, very much like Game of Thrones, you can feel the writing and experience get better as it progresses; things are less vague and the items start to tie into the main narrative more clearly. While I still think there's room for improvement, the recap really made me appreciate what they were going for so much more, and also showed me how best to approach each new box now that I understand how their narrative logic works.

Ok, since I couldn't find anything about this in the official forums I'm going to ask a huge spoiler question on here for those of you who have completed Season 1 (and I really mean completed, as in you've solved "Farewell" from Box 8): Who is the man reading the letter in the video on the USB drive? It doesn't seem like it could be Richter, and it seems like JWJ basically killed everyone else (I'm also assuming the murderer in the video is Jacob). Am I missing something obvious?

One more big spoiler question below: Does it get revealed later on or something that it's Nilson, or did I miss a reference somewhere? And therefore I guess the killer there is JWJ, though he seems much younger than I thought he would be. Feel free to PM me if you'd prefer.

The makers of the Hunt A Killer box are now launching their 2nd subscription box. It appears to be more supernatural in focus and is named "Empty Faces" www.emptyfaces.com/The promise seems to be shorter more intense storylines (the first "season" is 5 boxes compared to HAK's 8)
