I have box three of HAK and eagerly awaiting box 4. I love it! I have to say though this is the kind of experience that you get the most from by being in a group and exchanging ideas. I can't imagine it being so absorbing if I was playing it on my own. The boxes are just right. You get given just enough to investigate without giving too much away. It's then up to you how much time you want to dedicate to it. My first box I literally researched for a month exploring every tiny detail. Now i'm more cautious about going down every single rabbit hole and try to keep more on track. It's up to you how much real serial killer sleuthing you want to do! I find that side interesting but it's not mandatory to the game from whatI can tell. Most importantly, shipping to the UK is reasonable and delivery from the US is only a couple of days, which is much better than my experience with MPC has been. It's well worth the money in my opinion.

Well, since C&C has only sent out one issue so far this year ...I've gone ahead and subscribed to Hunt A Killer for six months. With no puzzles or mysteries to work on from MPC, I've had to branch out and trying other companies. Subscribed to Decoder Ring Organization (but now that is not shipping to October). Subscribed to the Armchair Detective (but that will not ship until the end of the year)....so at least Hunt A Killer will be sending something to me shortly. Just as well...as the saying goes...variety is the spice of life, right?

I also subscribed to the Decoder Ring Org., and purchased an experience with the Armchair Detective Co., both are later in the year. Longing for issue two of C&C vol 4. Oh well....

I received Box 1 yesterday and spent last evening sorting through the material and visiting the website referred to in one of the letters. I found a few interesting things, but this really is an experience for people who want to spend a significant quantity of their time on the internet Googling all kinds of strange things and hoping something worthwhile pops up. I don't mind doing that as long as some type of direction is pointed to. Hopefully over the course of the next couple of boxes things will start to come together. I know the that there are 8 episodes to this season....and I have committed myself to the first six. They have that long to reel me in. I'm not hooked yet...not by a long shot. MPC hooked me right away with the puzzles they posted "without comment" on their Facebook page last year.

I have the first three boxes of HAK now but haven't done much with any of them, except to inventory everything to be sure nothing's missing. Perusing their FB group tells me that somebody in their mailing department doesn't know how to package these boxes. Two of my three arrived with stamps from the post office stating that they received the packages already open or damaged! MANY others in the FB group are reporting opened and damaged boxes. This third box arrived with one end completely open, and when I looked at it more closely, I saw that it was not damaged. It had been originally folded improperly in the first place and was never going to close properly without being taped up. And it wasn't taped up. So, another stamp from the post office on the mailing label saying it had been received unsealed. Amazingly, nothing was missing. I appreciate their inventory list because I can tell right away what's supposed to be in each box. Having said that, I'm itching to get started. My grown kids and I get together for game nights and we went all the way through the Sherlock Holmes: Consulting Detective game and have been filling in gaps with other things. We did two of the MEC packages but found them not as fun as the Sherlock Holmes game. We did one fan-created case for the Holmes game and were pretty impressed. ANYWAY, all this to say that we're going to try our hand at the HAK boxes together but haven't found time to get together. (My two daughters just bought their first house together and it's a bit of a fixer-upper so they've been crazy busy.) I'm glad to hear maz say that it seems like the type of thing to do as part of a group. The five of us sit around my son's dining room table and have fun with stuff like this. Maybe this will be right up our alley. I'll report back once we start (semi-soon, I hope).

Well, I received box 1 of episode 1 and also just received and went through their newest release HAK 1668. HAK 1968 took me about 3 hours to get through and "solve". While I found the material interesting...I just didn't get into it. So I am cancelling my subscription. I'm sure some folks really love it...it is just not for me.

What was in 1968? Supposedly a done in one premium deal, right - some nice goodies in it? The contents included: Seriously don't look if you don't want to know!!!!! a small trinket box (which smells AWFUL and I can't keep in the house it reeks so much) filled with small pieces of paper, a photo album with photos and some papers/articles/documents tuck inside, a small necklace medallion, an eye dropper, some letters in envelopes and a reveal envelope.
It could have all fit in a large flat envelope except that trinket box made it necessary to ship in a 2" shipping box
The contents were interesting...but I would call any of them worthy of keeping and displaying.

On another note, I signed up for the 6 month pre-pay and decided to cancel after my first shipment. Unfortunately, it is not refundable. So I will be getting the first six of series 1 even though I don't want it. So if you are not 100% sure you are going really love it...I strongly recommended that you sign up only for the month-to-month.

Thanks for the notes on 1968 - I'm unconvinced it'll be worth the money when finally ready to ship to the UK....shame.
That six month thing is a bit of a pain, especially as season one is eight boxes long - if I was cynical I'd say it was deliberate!

I signed up for this after my dissatisfaction with the current direction of c&c resulted in me cancelling my subscription. I've received the first box so far and would say it matches up pretty well to an mpc experience mailing.
The packaging however is pretty bad. The box is incredibly flimsy and secured with one piece of tape. My box arrived torn open at one end, and from the comments on their fb page, this seems the norm rather than the exception.

The most recent box I got (#4) was finally taped a little better, but it's still the same box. They must've bought a boatload of those boxes. (Their Facebook page has pictures of them packing up the last big mailing -- those black and red boxes everywhere!) I'm hoping all the complaints they're seeing on their FB page and elsewhere will make them train their mailing clerks a little better. Two of my four were damaged and marked by the post office as such.

Im a huge HAK fan but have just completed the 1968 premium box and was very underwhelmed compared to the monthly boxes. I wouldn't recommend that box to anyone new to HAK. Note sure about the 1934 one. I do think HAK are new to the premium boxes and they will improve, but for now 1968 isn't worth the money imo.

I'd agree with this, though I went through 1968 a second time recently and enjoyed it much more knowing everything that was going on. I personally thought 1934 in terms of an experience/unboxing was really incredible, especially the quality and interactivity of the items within, though, in the end, the mystery/solution to 1934 wasn't particularly special or great. In my opinion, there's just no comparison between 1934 and 1968; 1934 is by far the superior and more impressive product. I will say that I'm not at all invested in the storyline for the monthly boxes, so your mileage may vary quite a bit if you do enjoy the monthly boxes.

I wasn't particularly thrilled with 1968 at all. It was OK, but nothing like a C&C experience. I've only received the first box in HAK Season 1 and I'm struggling to get connected to that. Will see how the next couple of boxes go, but I'm thinking HAK is just not for me. I know that they are coming out with another premium box. HAK 1973 before the end of year (I think Oct/Nov).
