Question here... I just started with MPC/C&C in the last few weeks. I am currently working through Volume 1, but I also simultaneously jumped into the Volume 3 missives (since I can't resist puzzles e-mailed to me). So I solved the 4 e-mail puzzles, and the "fingers crossed" puzzle. Is that all I'll be able to do until I eventually catch up with Volume 3? Not sure what to do with the sundial

Anyone have any ideas on the Sundial? My current thinking is that it might have something to do with the previous 4 (missive) Vault codes; i.e. each of those codes is related to a particular subject: The first could refer to Ulysses (spacecraft), and by association, Grant.
The second could refer to the civil war
The third could refer to the Emancipation Proclamation
The fourth could refer to journalists
Putting them all together with the Sundial hint gives me.... nada.

What are you basing your assumption on? The clue map in the Codex says that the sundial requires the four issues, which it seems would specifically disqualify the Missives... I haven't done any puzzle solving in V3 other than the missives, so if what you are saying is correct then I'm very likely off-base. I started from the assumption that the Sundial, like the Crossed-Fingers, was directly related to the missives and isolated from other puzzles.

So it turns out that my earlier solution to the fingers-crossed day lock was right after all!
Learning point: Sometimes the vault can be glitchy, it might pay off to try an answer a couple of times.
Credit to Todd for leading me to try it again.
