The King in Yellow was one of the original 3 experiences offered by the MPC, and remains available as a 3-installment purchase for you or another. The main themes of the experience are "Lovecraft-esc" but in no way a direct reference to the particular author. Robert Chambers wrote the original short story titled The King in Yellow and was referenced by Lovecraft. If you or your target are fans of the darker style of both authors, it is certainly in that vein. This experience is not a riddle and cipher-laden venture like the quarterlies, but rather a mysterious tale with some great background. It might help introduce your mark to more tales in the style. Purchasing the Chambers book is not necessary, but my mark chose to acquire a copy based on new-found interest. (However, the book is old enough that free PDFs of the book are quite easy to locate online.) The two artifacts mentioned in the description are of high quality and make nice conversation pieces. We have heard of one member who received the last item in a broken state, but I believe they were able to get an intact replacement. However, it did abate my curiosity as I was tempted to break open the item to see if there was something hidden inside (there was not).

An accurate and well done description.

I received the King in Yellow and was drawn into the story. I was even led to watch the True Detective series inspired by the King in Yellow and enjoyed the whole experience. I would recommend it.

How does The King in Yellow link together with the first series of True Detective?

The Chambers material is alluded to throughout the series, and The King in Yellow and Carcosa are mentioned with regard to the central murder investigation.

We have heard of one member who received the last item in a broken state, but I believe they were able to get an intact replacement. That may have been me. My final artifact arrived with the top broken off. I contacted the Curator regarding it, and he assured me that they would be willing to ship a replacement. I never followed up on it, as I sort of liked the idea that it was broken. (It was a fairly clean snap).

I just received the final artifact of The King in Yellow in the mail this evening, and it is an excellent item; I'm almost tempted to put it in my office. I would also say, without spoiling anything, that of the original three experiences (Risen, King in Yellow, and Tempus Fugit), I think this one provides the overall most satisfying experience and story, though Risen's artifact is truly a standout.

I would agree. This was my first of the three originals and it still stands out as my favourite. Although, John Auger has had a really impressive start and has gotten me excited in a way that KiY never quite did (aside from being my initial experience with the Company).

Would someone be so kind as to either here or in a new thread do an inventory of the mailings? I just purchased the full experience on ebay (yussss) and will be receiving it all as one set, but would prefer to read the documents in the order that I would have received them if possible. Thanks in advance for any help!

I'd recommend going to the MPC's website and clicking on the Spoiler Warning for The King in Yellow, which will have the full contents of each mailing listed and with pictures. You can also PM me if you'd like.

I suppose I will go the PM route. I had looked at the spoiler section and it seems like I have more documents than what is pictured. I won't know for sure until the package arrives anyway.
