Hey all, another Vol 1er playing catch up and got roped into the missives. I've got all the missives and "fingers crossed" solved but am stuck on "sundial." I'm just wondering if "sundial" is linked to any answers from night locks like "fingers crossed" was. If so, ill have to come back in a few weeks! Thanks for the help, hoping to catch up soon so I can help out!

This lock does not connect to any of the puzzles. It does have to do with a specific kind of sundial. A little research about a certain plant can't hurt either.

I noticed that the Puzzle Key on the Codex shows the Sundial as being dependent on the 4 Missive puzzles. I haven't solved it yet, so I can't state for certain whether the actual solution it is related or not, but I can confirm that I only gained access to the Sundial after completing the 4 Missive puzzles. In fact, as I was spending most of my time these past few weeks doing catch-up of Volume 1 & 2, at the time I gained access to the Sundial, I hadn't completed any of the Chapter 1-4 puzzles -- just the Missives. So, access to it was definitely unlocked by the Missives. Here's the theory I had regarding the Missives: There might be an element in common with the Missive solutions which frames the answer of the Sundial hint, or at least suggests a possible theme:
POLAR PROBE: Might refer to the Ulysses probe, and by extension others with the name Ulysses, such as Grant, the Union General of Civil War, and later President at the conclusion of the war.
FEUD: Another word for war.
BRUTUM FULMEN: An empty threat. Often used to describe the ex-communication of Queen Elizabeth or the Emancipation Proclamation.
INSCRIBERS: Those who record deeds.
It's possible to infer a Civil War theme from these answers.
If any of you have actually solved the Sundial, please let us know if this is a dead end line of thinking.

I don't see the Missive symbols next to the Sundial. The Sundial appeared at the same time the Chapter 4 and 5 sections of the Vault went up. It wasn't "unlocked" in that sense.

In fact, it's kind of obvious to me now that it concerns the 4 issues and has no connection to the Missives. I suppose I let my enthusiasm for my line of thought affect my thinking!

It looks like the first step in solvimg this as intended is the p6ictogram. People may want to check out the Pictogram thread on the 3.4 board.

The list is in a particular format that goes with a special coding system. Without just saying what it is, I think we have been recommending people check out "Silly Season" under user-made puzzles, but if you get stuck, feel free to send me a PM
