I originally debuted this puzzle in the introduction thread. However, it was getting tired of living there and wanted a better home. A few U-Haul trips and some frenzied painting later, we have this beautiful Victorian-style manor on some prime real estate in Epping Forest that was so cheap, it was murder! Have at it! I'm just going to go check out that noise I heard from that thick patch of brush. I'll be back in a jiffy, I'm sure.

Ok, I'll have a go. Here's my guess. A guinea was 1 pound 1 shilling, so that's a total of 21 shillings.
The largest single syllable number in the English language is twelve.
The world's most populous democracy is India, and the number you'd call for the police is 100. (But, starting in 2017, this is supposed to change to 112).
The first Australians to reach the top of Mount Everest are Tim Macartney-Snape and Greg Mortimer and they did so in 1984.
The room in the year the first Australians reached the top of Mount Everest would be the "Room" in 1984. In the book 1984, that terrible room in the basement of the Ministry of Love is Room 101.
21-12+100-101=8 21-12+112-101=20
So, you're either 20 or 8. I'm really hoping you're 8.

Going off of freshness 's I didn't even think about the book! Which still disturbs me to this day, I am going to try again... 20-12+100-101=...7? That's even worse XD But if it's
20-12+112-101=19 then that's more believable.... :\

Pretty much by process of elimination that makes you 21 Pretty much by process of elimination that makes you 21 Or 9. Apparently, process of elimination is flawed. Both guesses are wrong. This next hint may spoil the puzzle. Proceed with caution. There's more than one number you'd call in an emergency.

OK, so I know I was wrong on my shilling to guinea ratio, but my new beef is with the latest clue... So I give up Everyone who has been trying to solve it has struggled with that India one. So I edited it. It's probably too easy now, but it's better than the current "impossibility" of guessing the answer due to strange wording. Don't give up! You can do it.

OK! So with that information... Edited because I still forgot to change my shilling to guinea mistake XD 21-12+108-101=16?! Way younger than I thought, if that's the case! I never would have gotten it without freshness figuring out the "room" part, tho Bravo on a stumping puzzle!
