I know there are plenty of mystery boxes out there, but what about something more like the Curios and Conundrums "newspaper?" I haven't even gotten my first one and I'm already chomping at the bit to find something similar... I love the idea of getting a "publication" in the mail vs objects anyway... any thoughts? Thank you in advance

hi! what are the other good mystery boxes out there. i'm familiar with MPC and Mystery Experiences but would love to find more to feed my addiction... One other one I've seen that you didn't mention is Armchair Detective Company... I haven't tried it, though I've been sorely tempted... They have puzzle boxes nested in puzzle boxes... It's my understanding that you solve the puzzles to get to the inner boxes, and they can be put back together again and replayed by someone else. I still haven't found anything like Curios and Conundrums though, a "puzzle periodical." Not simply a puzzle book (those are out there, I have heard of Maze of Games, for example).

BillFelty -- If you like mystery boxes, then let me say that If Lady Delaney ever offers Haunted Dollhouse again or comes up with a new mystery? Run, do not walk, to sign up for it. (This would also mean you need to stay away from the spoilers in the Haunted Dollhouse thread!) The artifacts, the puzzles, and the story itself have been jaw-dropping -- in the best possible way. Another place with mystery boxes is the appropriately-named "Murder Mystery Box Company." They're more like ME, one box with everything you need in it to solve the murder. I got the 'back issue' to try it and it was quite nicely done. This particular mystery had a nice gimmick for presenting the evidence. The sample mystery on the website is a little lame, the actual box was better. I may sign up for a subscription, but my pocketbook is already reeling from Armchair Detective, plus the holidays are coming... www.murdermysterybox.com

Could you share any more on the sample box for this one please - I'm in the UK and they don't ship here, but really intrigued to give one a go!

Well, the box (that you can still order while supplies last) is second quarter 2016 -- it's a private investigator's journal about a murder. The journal itself is pretty much, "Just the facts, ma'am"
But the text refers to evidence that's in evidence envelopes. They're opaque instead of clear, of course. I guess it wouldn't actually matter if you open the evidence envelopes all at one time, just that it wouldn't match up with whoever he's interviewing and/or referring to.
There's a clearly-labelled reveal, but I really wish ALL of these guys, no matter how nice the stuff is, would put the reveals in an envelope so that it doesn't get opened by accident. That would be my only beef with it.
I mean, it is what it says it is, a murder mystery in a one-time box. I thought it was more clever and less gimmicky that ME, but less gimmicky also means less gratuitous stuff. It could have fit into a 'flat' (5/8" thick 9x12 envelope) if it were placed with some thought.
For your situation? I'm a maildrop for a guy in the UK. When I forward his ME, sometimes I can get the stuff into a flat and other times I can't. I don't read the mystery, so I don't know if the extra $12 it costs for me to forward ME using a box vs. a flat of the same weight is worth a couple of fortune cookies or a souvenir pen or some sunglasses? For all I knew, there was a clue in the fortune cookie, the pen had some invisible ink solvent, and the sunglasses were like those glasses you use to read marked cards...
I hope this is what you're looking for?

I spent an unnecessary number of hours today doing the sample. The magazine issue has puzzles with a couple of hints. When you think you have an answer to a puzzle there is an online site to enter your answer to see if it's correct.
