Should we have a thread for those of us who are making best guesses about the encoded words on the map even though we don't yet have all of the symbols for phonemes that appear on it? I think so. Has anyone else noticed all of the serious spoilers. Beware! Irish names that appear? Sullivan, McCready, Bolton? What does it mean???

Hi, Mr Kairo I'm glad you made this post, as I was hunting around for this very subject to talk about. So far based on process of elimination, and assuming that everything is pronounced phonetically rather than spelled correctly, my best guesses for the (SERIOUSLY SPOILERS DO NOT CLICK IF YOU HAVEN'T DONE YOUR PUZZLES) Chapter 5, Missives is... (SERIOUSLY SERIOUSLY SPOILERS HERE) Three horizontal + a dot = T, squiggly + diagonal lines = well we have that puzzle now.....not going to type it for those of you looking for spoilers.... large circle + 3 verticle lines = N, large circle, with smaller square and a dot = D so using those I have things like Really seriously, last chance DO NOT CLICK SPOILERS. STOP NOW. SPOILERSSSSSSSS. Yes, this means YOU, random person snooping around on the forums! Go exercise for 20 minutes, it helps blood flow to the brain... McCreedey's (spelling is uncertain as it was phonetic) McCree, Inconvenient Passage, Burt's Bend, Silent Sea, Burdens Den, a tavern, etc..... As for what it means, I have no idea. Would love to hypothesize with you!

Actually, I've got it as McCreedy's McCreek, which I find hilarious.

I'm hoping the magnets will help with this. There are more than 26 symbols, so a regular substitution cypher shouldn't work. I presume some are "th" or "ch" symbols?? I'm cataloging all of the pm now. Will report back soon. I think the map is the most intreguing thing in volume 3. Must solve it. Any help would be appreciated in a private message if needed.

I'll let you know as soon as I get back to my map scribbles and notes (they're at home). Edit: If you mean the coffin on 3.2 I have something like.... "dank corpse" update: what about "dank copse or coops?"

I did indeed get a "th" symbol with one of them. I'm assuming chapter 4 will have yet even more things as well once I dive in. And yes, I love the map too!

Interesting that there are 44 magnet symbols and only 34 symbols from the vault.

It's an ambiguous one, due to it's proximity to both mountains and trees. The phoneme is problematic as well, as it is "o". Both caps and copse should have a different form of an "a" phoneme.
