But congratulations to the moderator(s) for being so quick to act! Unfortunately, none of the moderators were in the running either. At least a couple members I am aware of had sent Global Priory requests the day before I even noticed it. I was already a day late myself. Threads were only created for the marked puzzles, and the board was opened to member created threads on Wednesday morning. If you're insinuating impropriety, it's unfounded.

Not at all, Todd. I think you are in a very difficult position both being the forum owner and 'playing the C&C,' for lack of a better expression.
Figuring out what to share here and how is a rock and a hard place. When I was reading the chat from Wednesday morning, I have to say that I'm not sure what I would have done if I had found the Mansa Musa missive and also had real-time communication with The Curator about it, keep it to myself or share it with the forum.
Please keep in mind, though, that I thought it was a puzzle with the mailing address to be revealed later, when everyone had a shot at it, not a first-to-return-post contest. That was why I started the thread yesterday, so that people would know it was a puzzle. I'm sorry that people reading the thread yesterday were already out of the running, I didn't mean for members to be demoralized.

If you had been lucky enough to get the solid gold coin, would you have sold it for its weight in gold ($101.08 USD) or would you have kept it as a keepsake? If the later, then the contest doesn't matter since the two coins would be indistinguishable.

Haha! And here I am, in the US and having just returned from traveling, thinking I'm so clever. I hope the Curator at least gets a chuckle from my less than timely missive.

Can someone please explain to me what the gold coin has to do with the envelope from the first newsletter? Also, does anyone know if this is even real gold?

Do we know who won the gold coin? I'm sure the results must be in by now, yeah?
