So having read the description of the mailings and stretch goals, I think the artefact for filigree may be a Stereoscopic viewer, with the stretch goal unlocking additional 'slides' for it. That would seem to fit with the Victorian and photography theme. I was thinking either that or one of those little whirly things with the pictures inside that create a short cartoon. And since it's an "new take on old technology", I thought I recalled seeing an updated version of those last year that won an illusion contest.

I don't think the final item in the crate will be something like a stereoscope They can be bought inexpensively and are common. So inexpensive and common that we may in fact receive one as part of the experience, with custom-made cards. But I can't imagine it could be the big item at the end. The "little whirly thing" is a called a zoetrope. If it's flat it's a phenokistoscope (which preceded the zoetrope).

It was my grandmother's, when she passed I got it and the slides of different world's fair exhibits. :-)

I was gonna post this earlier but I didn't want to ruin anything for anyone, after doing a little research I kinda stumbled upon what I think the artifact will be a Magic Lantern, which is basically the original projector

I was thinking the same thing. I almost want to pledge for it, but I think I might be too far into once bitten, twice shy territory to do it. I wish there was some kind of insurance policy I could buy. I was massively disappointed with CB. The storyline was rambling and disconnected and the items just weren't worth the money to be blunt. Being in the UK I had to pay over $100 in shipping, for what were predominantly pieces of paper. And that's without getting into the lack of promised online content. I'm also finding the current volume of C&C unsatisfying compared to vols 1&2. Filigree is MPC's last chance with me. If it leaves me feeling the same, then that's me done with MPC.

You're absolutely right, they can be inexpensive, but a nicely made wooden version with metal details would fit the bill.

That's why I will not participate in this Kickstarter. But I do wish everyone the best. And I shall play this game. The answer is right before our eyes on the page: The artifact is a camera obscura, but one that has been doctored in some way so what when you place an "item" that "interacts with it" outside and gaze in, you will see it in a "whole new light." A camera obscura would also lend itself nicely to a custom paint job for those at the bespoke level.

A camera obscura would also lend itself nicely to a custom paint job for those at the bespoke level. Another possibility would be a laterna magica. These devices have been used to project photographies during the Victorian era.

I haven't done any experiences, but I'm also less than dazzled with V3. I loved V1 & V2, and the format change- especially the lack of continuity and overlap both within the volume and compared to the earlier ones- is deflating.

Multiple different vintage cameras (I counted at least three) are shown on the Kickstarter page. None of them appears to be either a camera obscura or a magic lantern.

Make that four images of vintage cameras.

Make that four images of vintage cameras. Right. I am operating on the assumption that they would not place an image of the actual artifact -- or a version of said artifact -- on the page. However, I believe those images are hints.
