I'm interested as to whether the artifact has changed at all. I received mine with the main object wearing the smaller object on a twine necklace. No sign of anywhere that something could "hide" per se. It was also packaged with cardboard that made me chuckle.

I believe mine was the same. Can you post a pic with a spoiler tag?

If you go to the MPC website and look at this experience, click on Spoilers and you will see a photo of the artifact.

Mine looks like that. Less dirty of course. Where would the smaller thing have fit? By "slot" do people mean "bowl?"

Well, this is interesting. Mine indeed came with a slot on the bottom base just big enough for the smaller item to fit in. It actually fell out when I unboxed the artifact, and it did not have any kind of twine attached to it. In fact, I remember a brief discussion here about what one was supposed to do with it, and there was a proposal about putting twine through it. Perhaps someone from the MPC saw that idea and revised the artifact later (I purchased it in the very first run of the Experience). I'll take a photo and post when I get home from work.

Mine did, too. And I purchased it less than a year ago. But my smaller item didn't have a string attached.

Yes, but that looks very different from mine. I'll post a picture in about an hour or so.

Pretty sure that there was no twine on mine, and there was definitely a slot in which to keep the other small object.

Hmm. The small items are different. And of course I like the one I don't have more. Typical. So any clue why they changed this?

My thought is the wearable aspect of the new version - but the older version looks nicer and less cheap. And I like secret hiding spots haha. Though I enjoy that the new one fits in the bowl better. Hmm. Curious.

Wow, that's really interesting and a fairly dramatic change with the small item. At least with mine, it's clearly supposed to be "jade" but is definitely not; it feels like slightly weathered ceramic. If I'd realized that the item had changed so much, I would have taken a better photo of it; mine is definitely not round. There is a hole on the top that you could easily put twine through and create a necklace out of it on your own. It's funny; I think your Artifact without the slot makes more "sense" as far as something that would have actually been made by an artisan (the slot is actually fairly odd looking in person), but my small item makes more sense as a pendant as opposed to a disc. Oh well, it's archived now, so c'est la vie.

The one I got for my wife also has the slot and the token is oblong shaped and fits (and was shipped) in the slot beneath the bowl.
