I got this for my son. So far he is liking it and he actually thinks a girl is trying to be his penpal. Here are the contents of the first.

Received mine today. Nice to see that several of the items are personalized.

Read it all last night was even more pleased to see the number of personal references in the letter from Terry. But I don't know if warm, fuzzy, and kid friendly suits the MPC--it almost seems like a shirt that doesn't quite fit because it's so different from the other experiences. But there was quite a bit in the first mailing, and I liked that. Next mailing is not far off!

I ordered this for my boyfriend and he has been grilling me since the first mailing arrived on Thursday and is insisting that I must be involved (the fact that I studied Mayan archaeology waaaaaaay back in the day is not helping). This is the first experience that I've ordered (I've been holding out for something that isn't already spoiled on the Internet, because his Google Fu is strong), and I'm very pleased so far. The start is a little more spelling-out-the-supernatural-stuff-right-away than I was expecting, but it's fun and adorable. I am just having a hard time getting him to 1) buy my poker face, and 2) turn his investigatory questions away from me. I'm kind of hoping that sometime between this mailing and the next I can get him interested in chatting with an old college professor of mine that I am FB friends with who happens to be a pretty prominent Mayan archaeologist--I know my prof would play along, and I think it would add a fun level. But I don't want to toss that out there until he stops interrogating me about my involvement.

It also included 2 worry dolls, that fit in with the letter. But he snatched them before I saw them.

I was "worried" about them. Bada-bing.

But there was quite a bit in the first mailing, and I liked that. Next mailing is not far off! I finally got mine today and I totally agree. It's definitely cute & I think the main part of it will appeal to my 11-year-old daughter. The more formal part, I think will be over her head & uninteresting to her. I'm left feeling like it's too childish for an adult, and yet too much for a child. But of course this is only the first mailing, so who knows? Overall, I'm pretty happy with the detail & level of personalization so far. Side note: I wasn't quite sure how to answer the personalization questions, so I put a few different options. I laughed out loud when I saw they listed them all! They've since clarified the questions on the ordering page.

It's an attempt at something new for the MPC, so it might be successful or not. But it's good to see them responding to the wishes of customers for something more family friendly than, for example, a rotting dead finger.

...something more family friendly than, for example, a rotting dead finger. Needless to say, it is often the adults who wish for a less visceral presentation. Children are usually very enthusiastic about blood and gore. Besides, giving someone the finger might be construed as rude.

I must admit to Beckett's insinuation: as a 7 year old boy I would have loved "Risen."

Overall, I'm pretty happy with the detail & level of personalization so far. This sounds like it would be great for me. I never really "grew up", and though I love dark deep mystery, I also still love my Disney movies.....
