I wanted to create a thread so we could discuss the ongoing story that has resurfaced in C&C Volume 3 and talk about the things that are grabbing our attention, speculate about what is going on in the world of the OSS & SZ, and make guesses about what the future holds. WARNING: This thread contains MAJOR SPOILERS for the puzzles in the first two issues and I recommend that only those who have solved all 6 of the daytime padlocks read ahead. If you are still working on them and want to be surprised (which is the best part) please do not read this thread. Seriously. There are spoilers ahead. Looks like our old friend, Andrew McCabe has resurfaced and his tweets really tie together a bunch of threads from the paper and the daytime padlocks. POISONED NOT POWERFUL Well it seems as though someone (any guesses as to who he is talking to? Us? A member of the SZ? The Curator?) has taken an alchemical formula or been exposed to an artifact (a skull perhaps?) that makes them feel "young and vibrant", but it is a double-edged sword. What do we think they need to "continually feed" on? And what is the impact that is spreading? Is it a contagion?
DR. PATEL AND THE CURE I can only assume the Patel that he mentions is Dr. Sarah Patel from the "Curse Words Bear Grave Consequences" article. She is a "parapathologist", which I'm assuming means that she deals in supernatural diseases (although she seemed pretty skeptical in the article...). Seems like the Eye, Key, Snowflake and Leaf answers deal with the what and the "season" of the cure. Which still leaves us with the "right time and right place" to find. I'm guessing that our phoneme map will help with the where. Do you think that the "right time" might refer to a broadcast?
What else grabbed your imagination? Do you see any references to Volumes 1 or 2's story?

Thank God for this thread. I get so wrapped up in puzzle solving the story escapes me. Thanks Mr. Kairo!

Thank God for this thread. I get so wrapped up in puzzle solving the story escapes me. Thanks Mr. Kairo! I remember being very sad that the hidden messages in Issue 1 didn't seem to have any story significance. For a while, it seemed like it was all puzzle and no story. I was so happy when Andrew showed up again.

Now that we know that Patel is an NPC, I went back and re-read the interview with her in issue 1. Do we think the "purple, oily liquid" she is seen drinking might be the elusive cure?

(I know. I'm kind of talking to myself here...) After the Curator's email about the next issue got me jonesing again, I went back over some of the materials and have another quick observation: In the "Curse Words" article, Dr. Patel waxes philosophical that the problem with putting a cursed item in the Vault is that it would require someone to be cursed while transporting it. Then I read back over Andrew's tweets and saw the one about how if Andrew or Patel touch the plant, it will lose efficacy. I have already speculated that Patel is infected (because she has been drinking the purple oily tonic). Does this mean that Andrew is also infected?

I took "either of us" to mean AM or me (the reader), not AM or Patel.

I took "either of us" to mean AM or me (the reader), not AM or Patel. I thought that the person AM was talking to was the one who was supposed to harvest the plant. Wouldn't they need to touch it? I thought that was why he was (for lack of a less fanciful term) sending us on this quest. Because he and his compatriot couldn't do it themselves?

It's certainly ambiguous. He also says "Bring it to us, and we will help you overcome your condition." It reads to me like we're trying to save our own life here. That implies that the only one we know for sure is poisoned is our self.

For some reason, I have always read the messages as either being a broadcast to the many (like when he was asking for help in Volume 2) or to be us intercepting directed messages (like the ciphered letter to Bachmann's wife in Volume 1). So I feel like the poisoned person is not us, but a specific person.

I also read it as being directed at a specific person (who is not us -- or at least, not me), because of the first transmission that mentions SZ and I am certainly not affiliated with that organization in any way.

That's exactly what I'd expect a SZ Agent to say.

So I feel like the poisoned person is not us, but a specific person. I think the same- I definitely get the feeling that we are intercepting or "eavesdropping" on messages directed towards someone else. Personally, I think it is the infamous Myles Steede, notorious agent of the SZ, but that could just be me.

Regardless of who AM is addressing, though, the only one we know for sure is poisoned is the one AM is addressing.

Thank you for placing the items in a straight jacket. The postman put it in my mailbox, and I have no idea how he got it in!

Did anyone find in his 2nd last message that Believe us was strange? I think an anagram of Be Elusive to be more appropriate. Thoughts?
