I am having a really hard time with the decoding of the puzzle. I understand I need to match the symbols to the numbers but what then?

If you consider an Arnold cipher you'll be on the right page

I'm a total dumbbell at puzzles, but with a few clues from Todd I was able to solve it. In retrospect it was pretty simple, but my head was banging against the wall at the time.

I tried using the above suggestion with no luck. I tried starting with the pages that are torn out as page one. I tried skipping those pages Etc. Should the torn out pages be accounted for or ignored ?

Do you mean the symbols on the amulet? Moving clockwise from the top, where the string attaches, they are 1, 16, 4, 17, 36....

No the 3rd symbol in the book I have 8,4,14 which doesn't translate for me. It also looks like a "6" before the symbol for 4, which I couldn't translate.

Sorry. I don't have my book with me. I'll have to try to remember to look when I get home.
Symbols always come in pairs. There are either 2 or 4 to a page.

My first two pairs are 8,4 and 14,1

I think the advice about blank spaces might be helpful.

I'm still kind of lost on the decoding. I was able to match the symbols to numbers and I tried separating them into pairs and triplets and they don't make sense. For example the first set 8,4,14 is page 8, line 4, but there aren't 14 words in that line. And the third set 3,24,2 there is no 24th line to the page. So I'm not entirely sure on how to decode it...
