In my opinion, over the course of the past several months, the Mystery Experience Company stopped delivering immersive Mystery Experience ARGs and started delivering party games in a box, complete with a rule book and the answers in the back. While the stories are amusing and the puzzles often clever, the Mad Hatter left me even colder than the last couple boxes, which had already disappointed me. I have cancelled my subscription.
If you're the type that likes to host theme parties, then the sort of games being put out by the Mystery Experience Company might be right up your alley.
I'll keep this section of the forum active as long as there is continued interest. I'm sure there's a market for the product they are generating. It's just not me.

I agree with you. I just got the Mad Hatter and was not impressed. I plan on canceling my subscription now.

We did the Mad Hatter yesterday afternoon. Really disappointed to see that there were no puzzles. Plus, the only tangible items in the box other then papers, was a small locket and a coaster. Is that the best they could do for what people spend on this? Debating if I give them another month. I know they were asking for a lot of feedback on Facebook and realize that the changes can't always be implemented immediately.

The influential factor that tipped the scales for me was the Armchair Detective Company. A year's worth of a Mystery Experience subscription will just about pay for all three Armchair Detective packages. I cancelled and pledged for those at the same time.

Wow, I just checked them out and they look pretty cool. Going to have a discussion at home tonight to see if we want to invest in this instead...

So, the company that does these monthly mysteries is starting to rub me the wrong way. They ask for thoughtful feedback on Facebook. I posted a response, to which some people responded and a normal dialog was started. I have now seen that they have removed my post as well as everything else written underneath it because it wasn't just sunshine and unicorns. If a company can't be honest about their problems, do I really want to keep supporting them with my hard earned dollar??

If a company can't be honest about their problems, do I really want to keep supporting them with my hard earned dollar?? I suspect this is part of the reason they withdrew from the Are You Mystery Experienced? Facebook group and started their own. Even The Mysterious Package Company was guilty of occasional censorship in the Sitting Room. It's a bold move for MPC to not have control over an official forum at this time. Perhaps they trust the members who are active in this community to keep it civil and honest here?

Every thing is eventually corrupted by chaos and entropy. But I do hope MPC keeps it together. If Mystery Experiences folds, I won't be crying any tears.

Cancelled my membership last night and ordered the 3 Mysterious Cases from the Armchair Detective company. The head of Mystery Experiences told me that they remove any reviews or information which may dissuade people from buying their products. A pretty shady thing to do especially since people should be able to see pluses and minuses of everything. Then he proceeded to lock me out of the Facebook group so I couldn't even see it anymore! Quite a surprise since the most negative word I used was that I was disappointed in last month's package and hoped they were working to include people's suggestions. So, I am done. Looking forward to my special boxes which I guess don't ship till next year...

I don't think Armchair Detective will disappoint. Sabruda has an industry reputation to protect, at a minimum -- and I'm guessing he'd rather enhance it to support a new line of business. It's a long way to 2017 from here, but maybe they're doing the smart thing by underpromising on the delivery date. Maybe they'll be able to overdeliver on that promise and we'll get a holiday surprise

Yes, helenhandbasket, my thoughts exactly. As soon as I saw the Indiegogo campaign for The Armchair Detective Company it seemed so clear what their goals are. And the prices are quite reasonable given the intricacy of the items and number of items in the boxes within boxes involved. I was so excited that I wrote a piece about it on Boing Boing and made a post about it here as well.
Anyone here ordered the Babadook Book? If so, then the regular emailings from the director of the film reveal how intricate and lengthy the process of creating mechanical paper items in China can be.
We will have to wait until sometime in 2017 for the first pieces from The Armchair Detective Company to arrive, so much patience is required, however I feel it will be well rewarded. Competition is a good thing, and it may give the MPC a good kick in the arse to up their game.

I'll look into Babadook -- but I can promise you, his Alice in Wonderland is not to be believed.
