I just want to say as someone who skulked around websites from certain music genres, during that time frame that I loved this mailing. People who weren't a part of the scene at that time might not grasp just how well done the packet was. I could pull out several of my collection right now and they'd look and feel just like the liner notes did. As for the websites - so perfectly done, exactly as I'd expect from the domains listed at the years referenced. I'm still going through the websites trying to ascertain which of the other band names might not be real, and what other clues I might find. It reminded me so much of the catalog of bands back on Cleopatra and Metal Blade records in the 90's. The reference to church burnings was spot on too, there were 3 that year in Oslo alone. Although I think most of them have been attributed and prosecuted. I sent an email to the listed webmaster asking if he's got the other track, the one that wouldn't play but it Mailer Daemon'd so no help there.

Certain links and functions workm, while others do not. The one audio file that plays is a headbanger!

I'm on vacation and thus away from my packet, but this just occurred to me. Has anybody checked to see if the lines drawn on the foreheads of the band members on the cassette tape liner correspond to Ogham? While Celtic and not Nordic, it wouldn't be entirely unheard of to use that language. I'd check myself but we're out of town celebrating our anniversary.

I wonder if we're even supposed to search through Dark Oath Online. A google search lists this website first on the results, though "GNARLSPUTRESCENT" yields nothing.
I haven't come across any clues on the angelfire website yet, but I feel like something has to be hidden there. The playable track adds a nice touch of authenticity though. Perhaps something lies in the inaccessible pages that are no longer active.
Dark Oath Online has surprisingly large content to sift through and I find it rather curious to see many legitimate bands and such. Hopefully I can find something of an online puzzle between these sites.

I'm still not sure about the theory I proposed earlier, some seem to match, others don't. Google searches for the images have as of yet not produced any matches. It should be noted that the foreign language as part of the Blood Moon song title is Swedish and translates to "Take my Freedom" Further translations of the Swedish lyrics to Blood Moon are in order...

Take my Sight
Take my Home
and Take my Freedom (again)

At mistressariadanz Besides Ogham being a bit outside the core area of the Tale, at best you can really only get vowels from the face-paint. Ogham is from the British Isles and I don't think any up date has connected us to that area.

I came to that same conclusion later myself. I wasn't sure at first if the lines on their foreheads were the standard issue pseudo-Satanism thing, or perhaps just 1, 2 and 3 (for band member numbers) rather like the numbered Pope's in the band Ghost or if perhaps they were a symbol oriented language. Ogham was the closest fit, although it doesn't work but it wasn't entirely out of the realm of possibility with the Irish - Nordic overlap during the Viking era.

So far, I have mostly been brooding over the letter. I should very much like to finally pin down the origin of the mailings, and, if at all possible, confirm the identity of SP/SD. I thought that perhaps the logo on the paper - the one that has been scribbled over with the Valknut figure and the black bird - could give us a clue. I tried combining the visible white parts into a more complete figure, but there is not much to be had there - here is a look at what I came up with:
This looks a lot like a horned man carrying a dagger or sword - but I cannot say if I would think so if I did not know the experience had to do with Viking lore:
So far I have not been able to find anything on the internet that would fit.

I feel like I have seen that before. I don't know if it helps but I'm fairly certain the word at the top of the page is Universitet which is norweigien for university.

Now this is uncanny!
Unfortunately I was unable to find a university that use this particular figure in their logo. The logo of the Norwegian Institute of Science and Technology is similar in shape and colour scheme, but in their official name the word "universitet" comes last.
I wrote them a short inquiry anyway.

I'm not sure the origin of the paper is too important anyway or they'd have left us more to go on. Anyone had any success with the websites?

Anyone had any success with the websites? Two weeks later, and I'm still wondering what I am missing. I have been looking at the main website a lot, but have not been able to make any headway. So far, I am not even sure which element of the websites is supposed to be the puzzle! The markings on the band members' foreheads seem to be a good place to start, but I cannot seem to find anything meaningful to do with them.

I keep looking and looking and I'm just not sure. Anybody considered the dripping blood on the front page of the website gnarlsputrescent.angelfire.com/The way the blood drips from their band name - is it possible its Morse code, or Binary, or perhaps the positions of the drops map out something?

Maybe it will become clearer in hindsight, after the Experience has run its course. The following mailing makes mention of an incantation, supposed to draw out the Beast ahead of its century-long cycle. I was wondering if the incantation might be hidden somewhere within the downloadable music track.
I am probably seeing things where there are none to be seen.
Also this webcomic may have poisoned my mind... If you have never heard of The Unspeakable Vault of Doom, read at your own peril - it makes it so much harder to properly appreciate Lovecraftian horror, and it cannot be unseen:
