I'm curious if anyone amongst us enjoys some aural ambiance as they ponder the great mysteries and solve their quarterly puzzles.
If I can be so bold as to offer an initial suggestion: Wendy McNeill / Ask Me No Questions

This reminds me of the work of one Jason Webley, particularly my favourite album 'Against The Night'. I have to say though, that I find this sort of thing to be somewhat distracting when I am trying to focus my mind.
To set the mood, I would probably turn to the same sort of music I would use to underscore a role playing session. I am particularly fond of Erdenstern, a group that specialises in soundtracks made for that very purpose. Some might find their music a bit 'on the nose' or even overly pompous, veering into the 'cheesy', but I like it!
Here is a trailer for their score to 'At The Mountains Of Madness' by Howard Phillips Lovecraft:

Along those same lines, this has been my go-to playlist for background ambience. I also have some 20's era jazz records I'll pop on the turntable I picked up not too long ago. Love the atmosphere it creates.

For a somewhat darker ambience - that feeling as if you're researching the unknown and/or forbidden- you'd might like to visit the official cryo chamber label. Light some candles, pour yourself some Vin Mariani and the mood is set.. They've released quite a few free albums for you to enjoy on YouTube:

This is a necro-post of sorts, but I enjoy the Oxenfree OST when puzzle solving. It's equal parts calming, eerie, mysterious, and focusing, which I find is the perfect combination to get those little grey cells flowing. Here is a YouTube playlist for the curious.
