Is it just me, or are the two $99 experiences being put out now by this company just a remarketing of the February and March monthly mailings? Does this mean that future mailings, like April, will contain less "stuff"? I'm not sure if I like the path they are going down but will wait to see what April brings...

They have implied via the Facebook group that the premium experiences go beyond what is in the monthly box, including special items that enhance the value and additional online content as well.

I bought the Archon Genomics experience (just received a few days ago) and so far it is much much better than their monthlies. There are quite a few puzzles to solve. It could be used by a group of people as the monthlies are designed, but it is also fun for one, which the monthlies aren't. I'm trying to decide if I should get Anabel Lee, or save up for Tempus Fugit.

Someone sent me a pic of the Deluxe Archon, it really is very very nice -- I think they heard all the things people were saying in terms of what would be better than this piece of paper or that piece of paper, this puzzle is a non-sequitur, and why didn't you... and acted on it.
The only exception is that the contents of the desk isn't a part of it any more. And really, based on the pile of crap I had to go thru, it really felt like contents of a desk. What they have now as that particular evidence is 'personal items' that's the pictures, his lanyard, and a few other things. Well, that and the Archon Genomics site is a shadow of its former self, I'm guessing they might have gotten in trouble with the Archon Genomics Prize people and/or sites they hotlinked to -- but the original website for the original Archon mailing was a thing of beauty. They've also given up all of their Arcanum websites. That's understandable, they've gone in a completely different direction and have had a bigger response than they were expecting -- they don't need a freebie to draw people in these days.
FWIW, the online link to what solved the, er, controversial puzzle is no longer available, so I'm guessing they're going with something more conventional.

I hadn't heard about this company. It's a shame, they only seem to ship to the US currently.

If anyone hasn't seen it, Mystery Experiences company is taking email reservations for a new premium experience called Tales from Bedlam Asylum. At $999 they're supposedly going to send you a suitcase mystery full of real antiques and each mystery will be individual... nobody gets the same one. According to their facebook page they have 11 reservations in the last day.
Interesting idea but I don't know anyone who can afford that...

After having done two monthly experiences I would be very reluctant to give that company that kind of money.

After having done two monthly experiences I would be very reluctant to give that company that kind of money. I couldn't agree more! I thought the company had poor customer service, didn't allow any constructive feedback on their Facebook page, and the quality of the monthly experiences just didn't add up.

Well, now suddenly they're offering their $1000 mystery as low as $99 in a kickstarter campaign (a cheaper version with replicas instead of real antiques.) They have a bunch of different levels you can choose, some only available in the US. Estimated date is August. if anyone is interested, the link is here:
I found the perks of the upper level pledges amusing....dinner with the creators, an autographed letter from the creator, etc. No takers on that so far.

...and their definition of having stuff available internationally is....Canada.
Replica bits and bobs seems a worthwhile risk at $99, if they spend the time crafting the experience as they imply they will - but being in the UK, I'm out of luck.
Sassafrassarassarassa....

$99 seems reasonable for what sounds like an intriguing mystery. not sure I'd really wanna pay $999 for someone else's choice of "antiques". so I kickstarted in at the $99 level.

Been a member for 5 months now. . . I have found there monthly boxes mildly interesting but the quality of the puzzles is nowhere near C & C, or Journal 29 or the Exit series. Are they getting worse? So far I think the genomics lab was the best experience - it felt the most like an escape room / puzzler and not just reading a newspaper and eliminating suspects (as some other months).
I haven't done Rachel yet or Dead End but judging by the comments from "Mad Hatter" which interestingly I haven't received yet - I don't think I am going to be too happy. Thinking of canceling. I am doing C & C, Escape the Crate, and Hunt a Killer as well - I also splurged by for the 3 Armchair Detective Boxes, I think MEC is the weakest of all of these (I am expecting great things from AD) and I might have to cancel soon. The best way to put it is they really just any that fun . . .

It's possible that the pressure of churning these out each month mean keeping the quality up would be hard - and there are a lot of recycled puzzles: if you line up all the puzzles from month #1 it's almost like they have a ticklist, right we'll have six Caesar's per year, three rails, etc etc. Having said that, the main geezer was in hospital for a couple of weeks a while ago, and I think they've moved to be closer to some other creative talent, so these sorts of disruptions would obviously hurt. I've looked at quite a few of these sorts of boxes (and have all the board game versions too) and MEC is definitely the entry-level version - but that's no bad thing if the curious are led deeper into the rabbit hole.

You say you've been a Mystery Experience Company subscriber for about 5 months, making it maybe a January 2017 join date. The Archon Genomics box was their initial subscriber box in February 2016. It sounds like it is possible that they may have revisited this box, or at least this company, at a later date? The Mad Hatter box was from last year as well. These boxes definitely started out much better than what they evolved into. I personally cancelled my subscription last August after watching the immersiveness disappear. I have heard reports that they were going to try to get back to the sort of boxes like Archon Genomics, with its ciphers and plot-advancing puzzles. I hope they did anyway. I believe most of us here canceled our subscriptions long ago, as they morphed into more of a Murder Mystery Party box, with the only puzzles being figuring out motives and opportunities in a sort of turn-based game. If that was what you were looking for, I'd imagine this didn't disappoint. We seem to be a somewhat different lot here, craving a more immersive puzzle experience. Please do let me know if I'm reading your timeline correctly, and if they did, in fact, return to a more puzzle-based game in the recent months.

Todd - Interesting it sounds like they might be recycling experiences. Here is what I have had so far: 1- Heart of Darkness (Jan) 2- Sector 7 (not genomics lab) (Feb) 3- The Raven: Carnelavarian (March) 4- Rachel (April) 5- Dead End (May) So far none have been a "turn-based game"/murder mystery party box but the puzzles/immersion haven't been stellar. I have not completed Rachel or Dead End yet but I have them.
